  1. They are smaller but need to be warmer and more noist. and will last 2 to 4 days in the tank
  2. ince most here feed white worms to there fish amphibians ect if you feed the worms the flakes reptile pellets ect would they be a "little" more better for the fish ect since your feeding them what the fish eat? With all the rubbish that goes into flake the reverse could be asked? I dont feed flake at all as I breed all the time In the wild, bugs fall into the ponds/rivers so they wont be fed on anything other than whats handy where the bugs are growing. I feed my worms (as well as Grindle wroms) Lunchon simply because it works really well for me and produces enother to feed as much as I want
  3. got me all excite for a minute... thought you guys had bred one Phoenix.. those Nigripinnis are the most stunning fish you can see in natural sunlight. Im sure that everyone who has seen these will agree with me and Im yet to see a photo of one that can do any justice to them at all Next time your in West Auckland. get in touch with me
  4. so when are you picking them up from me?
  5. the box alone would be best (lined with plastic) but looks too big I have one culture in the wooden box I got through Alan and the other in a small poly box(that needs the dirt changed)

    whiteworms

when they arfe really going, they are in huge numbers that can be spooned of. I then leave them in light and a bit of warmth unther then lights and any excess dirt is removed easily

    Fry in Peat

the Kort Reds are belived to be here although the peat is very old The reds are belived to be collected from a different location as is the Rachovii but with so many people keeping what they just call say Rachovii, you dont know which is which at times. I know that Aaron had bred a yellow tailed Stienforti... hope its still alive as I cant wait to see it and see if it will throw more yellows

    Fry in Peat

I heard that there were the black Rachovii here a while ago... would love to track those down again... hopeing that they may well throw one or 2 from the strains we have .
  10. give me a yell and come arround and have a look would be best... I dont keep big numbers but have about 20 specie

    Fry in Peat

Thanks If I cant get it up here I will take you up on that... By removeing eggs and storeing on a lot less peat would save a lot of room instead of storeing 1 bag of peat I could store say 10 bags in the same place As I dont have a hot water cupboard or heated fishroom (yet) Im reliant on the incubator Ive just bought

    Fry in Peat

Opps Sorry TM Congrats on the Rachovii are they the Aquarium strain or the beria? Nothos in general when they are fry dont like too bigger water changes and I always put a bit of a Oxy tab in with them. You will loose a few for sure but the above seems to lessen the losses

    Fry in Peat

Alan I would like to buy some of that mesh from you at some stage. When I get back to Auckland, I will phone around and see if I can get that sand and let you know.

    Fry in Peat

Baster here tip the container (lidded of course) on its side and wait for the peat to settle then very slowly move the container forward untill flat again. That way the peat is to one side and the water and fry can easily be seen and removed What did you hatch thnis time?
  15. bit of tomato chutney and you have a nice dinner
  16. any one that is a fisherman knows that live food is best... it spurs feeding even if the fry/fish are not hungry. Fry need to feed to grow and therefore live bbs has to be possibly the best food available. Once set up it is really easy
  17. I know mine dont.... got freeze dried Tubiflex and they just wont eat it at all... maybe just a killi thing?
  18. I have never sold a thing on TM but have thought about it as we get seconds shower doors and splashbacks. From me to get a gut to package it up and ready it for courier or cartage would take at least an hour. By the time I pay everything from wages, acc and public liabilty my cost would be at least $40. Add to that the cost the packaging itself and possibily taking it to a courier or cartage place... I think that Im better off throwing it away Mind you, if anyone wants to work at no cost to me
  19. I cut the cubes into the size needed to feed each tank and chuck it in
  20. Probably none were tested all those years ago and you wont get an argument from me (although I do enjoy debating  ) about letting similar specie from close areas in but the rules are there and have to be respected so while they are there we must observe them.
  21. many many moons ago, my family imported the silver possum and blackbird to the Dunedin area. The silver possum was introduced for the fur industry but the mistake was made by allowing a few out as pets... these bred with the already established possum and added to the problem. I myself have imported racing pigeons from Australia on many occasions untill they were stopped due to Newcastles disease in Oz.... Interesting that Newcastles disease is and has never been found in pigeons but I totally support MAFs decision as it may possibly become a carrier. Every time those racing pigeons were imported, there were droppings and seed (the droppings also contained seed) that were on the floor of the containers. These are all possible causes of disease and unwanted plants here. In those days, we had to not allow the birds to come in contact with any other birds for 30 days. Although we never were instructed, I always gathered all the waste and burnt it. With fish, we simply dont know enough about them and what the may possibly be carrying. I would love to see more Killis here and have problems with allowing one specie from one part on Africa but not allowing another from 10 miles away that is different by only say colour but those are the rules and untill they have been totally tested, I agree with them. With Killies, we have lost several that we have had here in the past and I am contacting past members looking for old peat and fish that may well still be arround (with some success I might add) so as a hobby, its up to all of us to breed and keep what we have here going. On the original question about MAF and "disscusing" things with you at the boarder. I always declared everything I had that may possibly have some thing to do with my then hobby (racing pigeons) and was stopped, questioned and serched several times untill I had a proven record. In the end, Boarder control knew that I was doing nothing wrong and were a lot easier on me. I simply want them to be there and keep an eye on whats happening. We cant expect them to make different rules for different things. Im not trying to take sides or anything else, just trying to put my experiances on importing live stock and the fact that they are trying to help us and other things that live here

    Killie Virgin

How big are they The smallest I have is the clown Killi (P. Annulatus) which grows to about 25mm long and the largest I have is about 110mm long. The King Killi (Sjo)( I can get you the scientific name if you want but cant remember the spelling here at work) and how long do they live? Killis that we have here in NZ can very in life span. Some live from 3 to 18 moths and other to 3 or 4 years. In general, the more you feed the quicker they grow and breed but also dont live as long. Peat spawners are in general shorter lived as in the wild, the pools they live in dry up totally in summer and the dont breath air These are called annuals. They are prone to velvert and you should add salt to the water at a rate of 1teaspoon per 4 letres which helps in the prevention. I have had these peat spawners (Nothos) breeding in 4 weeks so I always have plenty of eggs ready to wet if I need them. Quite a few shops have the wrong idea about killis and think they are all short lived but I have a lot that are 18 months and older. There are huge verations in colour and shapes of different specie.
