    crayfish

I belive that you need temps of below 24 cel The streams they live in here would never get above 20 Im guessing you mean the fresh water cray (Kuroa{sp?})
  2. I find the fact that no-one has mentioned my English heritage (about 12 grands back) as being insensitive and there fore racist... please include the English in all this (implied swearing avoided) could you also stop using the term English Breakfast Tea
  3. I agree Simian from a personal point of view, the last 6 months have been the busiest 6 months for me (bussiness wise) ever and Im in the building related industry... as a glass merchant/glazier My wife has had her best ever summer and her job is mainly spring/summer (dove release) the down turn appares to effect larger companies that are less effective in controlling their costs and have large waste in their costings Figures I looked at yesterday mentioned that in the last 3 months last year, unemployment rose by less that 1% If you turned of the radio, I wonder if anyone would really notice a turn down?
  4. the thing to be VERY careful of is not to upset the retailers by taking away their market It is their living and if we make it not worth their while, they will simply move to other markets so that they can still put food on the table
  5. must admit that I have to eat humble pie as it was presented fairly and covered the whole subject well
  6. Congrats Ryan Ive still got mine in that tank and will wait untill I get back in a week so I can keep an eye on it again, congratulations
  7. unfortunatly the drama involved with this show distroys the good work that is done by the people at the boarder It is typical of a lot of the cheaper type programs like Coast Watch, Target and the likes. They are made thinking that we are all completely stupid
  8. dont forget that the guy making it is trying to feed his family, pay taxes and keep his head above water so that hes still there next time a lot forget things like that
  9. new $400 to $500 would be cheap
  10. the wire cast glass is used for a smoke stop glass. it has a 30minute rating. It is made to hang together. Use a hammer around the edge and remove as much as possible in one piece while the wire is holding it together. Removing the middle of the glass gives less purchase and makes the job harder Do not use wire when replacing the glass. In remaking the tank you may think about bedding it in steel frame putty which will give you a proper bed then MASKING the inside about 5 to 10mm from the edges and using silicone to seal and waterproof the tank I suggest a bed of STEEL frame putty (not wood sash) as these tanks were normally welded together at the corners. There probably wont be enough weight to break the glass but a bed of putty will make it look better... fill up any gaps in the steel frame putty so it looks neat My 2cents worth from 42 years experiance
  11. if you look at the top of the photo by the arrow you will see its started from where the wire is There is no other glass in the tyank so what we would do is turn the tank upside down and use a hammer but be carefull not to hit the steel and cover your eyes. Put plenty of paper down as the shells (Chips) will fly all over the place
  12. the glass on the bottom is Wire Cast The wires running through it rust if the get damp and as the wire swells which is why it normally breaks. The putty that was used was called Butyl putty and is no longer available
  13. thanks and a huge thanks to both Kerry and Zev for organising the show and to Rob for allowing us to use the National Aquarium. Now don't forget to start planing for the next one in about 52 weeks plenty of warning so make it a weekend and come join us
  14. unfortunately he still needs to be bigger as he should grow to 120mm.... I thought he was about 100 I should measure him at some stage

  16. in order to qualify for this years breedings... looks like this years cut off date is the end of April... any after that will be for next years
  17. Your friend can come for dinner too! cost is only $20 each plus drinks
  18. lead is used (and sold by fish shops) to hold down plants and the like all the time. I have had lead strip in my tanks for over 30 months with out and disolving or problems For us to get lead poising we need to digest or inhale lead so with the amount that will dissolve in water next to no problems will ever occure. I get my leadlighters tested every couple of years and they have never registered... I started out getting them tested every 6 months but the dr said even every 2 years is too often
  19. silicone takes 1 day per mm of joint to cure leave it for a week if you can
  20. All sorts of eletronics GPS Chartplotters Fishfinders fuel guages and much more
  21. that Caryl is normal service for Navman Where ever possible, I buy nothing else at all. (mainly cheaper end eletronics for my 16ft tinny)
  22. Glass has a impact strenght greater than steel but in saying that, when damaged its broken whereas steel simply dents. With this in mind, glass needs an external force to break it These external forces can some times be found by the type of break. Is it the base, sides or ends that have broken ? How close to a heat source is it near a aircon unit open window?
  23. your rite to organise things early My wife already has a lot of bookings for 2010 so it must be a busy year.Good luck

    Australe

they seem to be a bit slow on the breeding front at the moment... there is one or two guys up here doing OK so if theres no luck down there, they may be able to spare some eggs We need to start swapping fish to keep them keep I think.
