I use beach sand, i wash it before use

Changed/added any different foods of late? Combination of heat and surface movement bringing the old "scum" to the surface? Never worked for myself what causes it :-?

Edit: Beat me to it ^^ Tested the water parameters? Ph and ammonia and the such? (Reference re fish dieing) How big is the tank? What fish? How long has it been set up for? When you fill up the tank do you make sure not to disturb the gravel/fert? Got any driftwood in your tank? -

1. People use things like news paper/tiles/sand anything the young ones cant eat. Sometimes the young eat sand and it messes them up inside, so thats why 2. Dno lol, for a short period yes....depends on growth rate and how big it is currently(but im a not a expert) 3. If you keep the tank clean(pick up poo and things) they shouldn't smell My 2c

How many fish we talking? IMO its a good idea Interesting to see the water quality at the end of it Maybe find another fish keeper to feed them for you? Do the same thing if they go away?
