  1. Fans. You can buy them for pretty cheap, just run them when your lights are on And unplug your heater completely.
  2. If he is only getting fish, he won't need a skimmer. A skimmer is ADVISABLE, but not required. In a tank that size, he could "plant" the tank with macro alge, and do nutrient export by pulling it out when it grew too much. Fish. Don't get anything too big. School of tangs would be nice, couple of clowns etc. Or, get angels.
  3. "live rock" is infact dead coral skeleton. Live rock is called such because it contains bacteria that do the ammonia --> nitrite ---> nitrate cycle and then release nitrogen gas. It would be unusual for youto get growth of corals off your "live rock" if you storebought rock and cured it yourself, however, if you fetch NSW (natural sea water), you will probably get life from that in the forms of copepods, shrimp which at some stage in their lifecycle have a planktonic stage.
  4. Don't need a skimmer on fowlr. Just need to do slightly more waterchanges.
  5. Don't buy the DV / DX series notebooks. They are the "Retail" models, and don't have the build quality of the NX / NC series, don't have the support really.. and.. Eww compaq. Mine died 3 times in a year. Never again. And each time the bloody technicians diagnosed the fault wrong. Whiney sound top left hand side. They replaced the battery and monitor. (faulty capacitor on the m/board). System would not boot. They ordered a new power pack & battery. Was the CPU. Catastrophic failure of the mainboard (Smoking) they ordered the keyboard. I know this, because I rang the technician and asked whtat was wrong and what parts they had ordered to fix them
  6. Agreed with all of the above. I actually sell them, as i'm currently on a public forum, and not in shop I can say what I honestly think about products. - HP - Average at best. - Compaq - Frustrating. Same company has HP, dont have the same support service - Acer - "I've got an acer, its a great machine"... "How many did you have before you got one that worked?" - Dell - I hate dell with a passion. - Sony - Overpriced as all hell. - IBM / Lenovo - Haven't really delt with them - Toshiba - Market leader in many ways, great _b) - ASUS - I own one, and love it.
  7. I want to get my boy a girl. I'm pretty sure my tank has the capability to feed two of them, as my nightly podchecks are showing more and more life (swarms of mysis shrimp everywhere, pod shells floating on the surface of the water etc etc etc). When I introduce the girl to the boy, how should I do it? Will the male try and fight her off his turf or will it be love at first sight?
  8. From memory thats a 24 L tank? Try like an AR-510, or an AR-620 Thats like stuffing you into a bathroom and saying. Here is your life
  9. Knifesys are one of those fish that need to be handfed
  10. Yunno why it looks like wood? Because it IS wood. Romania is a very poor country, they see all these games like NFS: Underground, and go, wow I want a piece of the action. So they make it themselves. Hugely skilled when you think about it.
  11. i have a cbs and a cleaner. They seem to have different halves of the tank. Cleaner shrimp hangs on the left hand side, cbs on the right.
  12. Regarding white spot, the salt should help take care of it, just keep them well fed, make sure that they are eating, there is some stuff called blue circle white spot cure that i've had good luck with (admittedly I don't know if it was the temp or the stuff that worked), but you could give it a shot.
  13. They will get whitespot esp. after that treatment. Bump the temp up to 28-30 degrees, and put a bubbler in.
  14. Heh, i overfeed my tank quite a bit, so I know its getting food from that
  15. I bought a scroll coral (as it had a very nice mushroom), and I was aware that the coral was pretty crappy (as in, pure brown), it has since started to perk up nicely, and is starting to go yellow. My claustria (Bright green candycane type thing), when I got it was pretty sick, but is looking much better now. A "White Acro" (beige really) that I bought off TeL is now going bright green, and should be a stunner. My organ pipe is much the same, its now a sea of green, however, the only coral casualty I have had is a sun coral (which died), i was unable to keep it fed without polluting the entire tank - It just wouldnt open its polyps.
  16. i've handfed my chocolate bristlestar....
  17. The first time it happens, you don't realise it. Just looks like the shrimp has died, because the shell still has colour, and then, you see it alive and become HAPPY!
  18. QT tanks and whitespot are a complete waste of time. Whitespot is in all tanks anyways, (usually dormant), Every time I have added clowns to a tank, they have instantly come down with whitespot, due to moving stress, bags, etc. Bump the temp up to 28-30, most of your fish will be fine, increase the airration, and watch those tetras. Don't take the clowns out of the tank, they will get whitespot as soon as they are reintroduced
  19. *&$# Not cool I've heard about it happening to a few people though, hopefully your horses are O.K.
  20. Hate bleedin' bristleworms. Just pulled a 1foot long one out of the display and dumped it in the sump. XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX. Launguage Removed. Read The Guidelines.
  21. I was discussing how much it costs to setup a basic tank - You are looking at around $1000 / foot, for a basic setup. However, if you shop around a bit (hint: Check the commercial trade & exchange), you should be able to pickup a real bargin
