completely agree but how do we get the ball rolling....... - amnesty - maf find out what is here - permits - limit keepers and keep records - extra money for maf you will allways get the people that do things illegally but it would be a start. possibly open things up with natives as well like in Australia, still have permits but make it so you can buy and sell within Nz, suddenly you will find skinks and geckos that are currently in danger being breed in much greater numbers.

caryl, i tried mastertrade, they are a customer of mine, useless, didnt know what eggcrate was and couldnt even help with lamp refectors. good ideas with bunnings etc, will check out tommorrow cheers

does anyone know where I can get sheets of what is called eggcrate? I am looking at building a couple of false bottom terrariums but can't find any. Also I am after some industrial light reflectors similiar to the exo terra heat lamps for my diy lighting, any help would be appreciated.

hard pic to see but with the stripe should be a Raniformis ( southern bell ) it looks young. oscarboy, sometimes it is better to say nothing when not sure. but you did cover 2 out of three frogs so your chances were pretty high. :lol:

got mine on bark, they dig under everything to sleep, no probs. seen them with hard packed dirt.

I was laughing at the male in the big enclosure, he was chasing the female up a branch, bu every couple of steps it looks like he would change his mind and start going backwards. :lol: I think it is so they look like leaves on trees moving with the wind.

interesting review Jeremy, I must admit I have never paid much attention to the actual enclosures, I only have eyes for the reptiles but I would agree areas could do with a bit of work, after spending some time helping out up there I am amazed what is actually accomplished with what resources they have available! It has blown me away how much work would be involved in running a place with so many reptiles, my hat goes off to them I think we " herpers" are very lucky to have somewhere to go to see these wonderful reptiles in such open natural spaces. were you the guy with all the kids writing all the reptiles names down. pity you missed the alligators mating, when you see the actual owner excited you know you are lucky to see something that you wouldnt normally witness!!

hi there welcome to the forum, you've come to the right place , there are heaps of people that can give you good advice on here:D I myself wouldnt call bearded dragons a good "beginner" reptile, also the exo terra terrariums would be out grown pretty quickly, frogs or newts would be more suited to that sort of size. either way i'm sure you'll enjoy whatever you set up :bounce:

you can get a 4' x2' x2' glass enclosure of tm for $200 with sliding doors stand - make it uvb lighting basking light ceramic socket and lead with $2.00 spotlight or heat emitter wood etc biggest thing is insects - breed them first and you will save a lot of money!
