  1. So here are some photos after struggling with my camera then with my computer. The bulbs are actually 7100k. Dont tank any notice of the big holes i drilled abouth the fittings. You dont need them but I didn't find out that till later. Just undo one side of the fitting and let it pivot on the other screw. You also need to move the metal clips as well but that is easy. Just unscrew them and drill a new hole then screw them back in.
  2. SKI Cardrona and TC for me, Queenstown is full of to many tourists for my liking.
  3. Yeah they look just like that but are 24w 6700k bulbs which are good for plants.
  4. YES it is! I have a ar620t and have installed higher wattage lights. I switched out my 18w lights and got new 24w ones. I checked my ballasts and they are rated up to 24w's. Have a look at yours, takes a bit of fiddling to get the cover unscrewed but it is worth it. I had heaps of plants growing nicely for a while after the light change. When i put the new bulbs in i found that they would touch a bit. to solve this all you have to do is unscrew one side of the fitting and turn the fitting slightly so the lights run beside each other. I will get some photos tonight to show you want i mean. I pick up my lights from my lfs, cost me an arm and a leg but i could not find them any where else down here. Might be able to fins them at an electrical wholesalers but the ones i went to said they didn't have them.
  5. Are you breaking it over something that runs the whole lenght of the cut?
  6. Thanks for all the replys people. If i was to set a species only tank, would it work having only 1 male to say 5 females? The reason i ask is that i have read that once they pair up the do so for life. The we terrors have moved there brood to another part of the tank behind some rocks so good for the other fish.
  7. So I have a nice tank that I set up at work and everyone was getting along nicely untill sometime over the long weekend two of my jewels decided to bring a nice surprise out from there hidding place behind some rocks. I noticed a "cloud" of young hanging around some really nicely coloured jewels yesterday morning. Was all excited untill I noticed that all the other fish may as well be in a prison cell. Well the cloud has grown alot smaller over night and my clowns seem alot fatter but still the other fish are in a small corner of the tank. Now the logical thing to do would be to set up a tank at home and breed these lovely fish. Gear is not a problem but I can't set up a tank till the weekend. Question time........... Question 1: Is there anything I can do to push the breeding pari to the other end of the tank instead of the middle? Question 2: What is the minimium size tank that I could breed these fish in? Question 3: What do i feed the little ones till they are big enough to eat flake?

  14. Hello everyone, I have a 250L tank that needs some colourful fish in it. I am not sure what to get and would love everyones feedback or stocking list. At the moment it has 6 E. Yellows in it (they can stay or go) but am not completely happy with the colours. It has a medium to high turn over of water, and has sand and a rocks. Please help me. I see these really nice tanks but not sure what the fish are called so i can order them. So give me some ideas of some colourful fish that will live together. Cheers people EDIT: Forgot to say that if they get to big i will just get a bigger tank
  15. I would go for the ply and the poly, better to spend $60 - 80 now on the ply them $300 + on a new tank when it smashes to the ground.
  16. I dug out the bottom of my house and ended up swimming of the coast of spain, I still think it would have been warmer in the middle of the ocean then outside at the moment.
  17. Yeah sorry should have been more specific. UGJ (under gravel jets) are jets that just poke above the surface of the gravel or sand and keep things stired up. They are all plumbed togerther then a pump is added. Here is a good article about them. http://www.cichlid-forum.com/articles/ug_jets.php I have put three jets in my tank but should have put four and got a bigger pump, but it should be ok. As for the rocks i have just stacked them up, we don't get many quaks down south here so it should be ok. They are sitting on about 5cm of sand so fingers crossed. You can always get some egg crate, the stuff that is used in office buildings on fluro lights. i used shicst as i can get as much as i want up central.
  18. I just set up a four footer as a cichlid tank and had the same problem as you are trying to figure out. I search the site and found plans for under gravel/sand jets. They work a treat, everything gets suspended so the filter can suck it up. It doesn't completely solve the problem of getting the gunk out from the rocks but it helps. I also purchased some clown loaches and they pick up the left overs if there is any.
  19. - Dreamweaver is great (30 day free trial) - Search free web hosting and the look into the make your own websites. - Pay some polytech student $50 to make one. - I went to polytech and did IT made some good fish money making websites for people.
  20. Well the tank now has three hyper clown loaches. They are awesome, I would get some photos but i cant get them password works firewall
  21. I was thinking three as it is a small tank for clowns and when they get bigger i will either get a bigger tank or sell them then get some more small one.
  22. How do the clowns deal with the higher ph?
