  1. I heard the report on the radio news-Hilarious! "The polystyrene boxed contained a number of individually packed Siamese**FIGHTING** fish. I work with media everyday and they never fail to amuse me.
  2. I'd like to make a comment mate but I'm a bit stretched for time this week and probably off fishing nxt week, then there's is school holidays. Might be able to make a comment after that, but we might have to revise that initial cost because of the length of time this is taking me!
  3. Which will get you about 800-850 watts. Enough for 2 x200watt heaters, a couple of lights and small filters. A 2Kva one will get you about 2000watts-All the above plus computer and maybe TV.
  4. I got a 5Kva unit that was surplus to a friends needs which I got at a very good price. Seems to be plenty of choice though and price options http://www.trademe.co.nz/Business-farmi ... -3800-.htm depending on your consumption needs. I would think 2kva would run a few tanks plus a couple of appliances. I live rural so I'm not going to piss the neighbours off with the noise of the genny going. You sound pretty sorted Whetu. Hope you are near home if something happens. The irony was last year I was out of town when I lost power for 36hrs working for a power company.
  5. I was just wondering who out there has a plan should we be hit with a power outtage(s). I've recently bought a petrol powered electric generator. It will have more uses than just powering fish tanks, but this current climate of power generation was a big reason for the acquisition. I note that there were lots threads last year after the storms so was thinking of people posting pre-emptively any good ideas regarding safe-guarding their fish should a pro-longed outtage occur. Blankets over tanks kinda of ideas. A few easy steps that can greatly increase the chance your fish surviving
  6. Yes To Man U fan! Have been since I can Remember ( early to mid 70's). Sammy Mcllroy. Lou Macari, Stuart Pearson with that thunderous boot, Steve Coppell and the like. Dad was a fulham fan I think but I loved United because they played exciting football. A dollar for everytime I hear of the comment,"I support any team playing Man U". From munich in 1958, to Busby's babes, to this years domestic and european glory. They are one of the true heavyweights of World Sports I make no apologies for supporting such success. Theatre of dreams If you are loving the football of Chelsea, Arsenal or liverpool at the moment-then look to see where their aspirations lie and who they look at for inspiration. It won't be with the apologist's- and definitely not from my team- Div 4 over 35's team that consistently hovers mid table.
  7. I'm giving you the benefit of the doubt on that line and because no-one else seemed to. Nice throw back to original topic. 17 eggs!! that must have been one hell of a moody day.

  12. Babies all good and doing well. As for selling- It will probably be a little while before they are big enough for sale- I'll keep updating. Cheers!
  13. Didn't realise you worked at Noel Leemings Ian. LOL Was that a Tetra behind that plec-ooops!, Bugger, damm, gueesz we'll never know.
  14. Yeah goodluck!- BN's are tough. Put some Methyline blue to take care of any fungus
  15. Barrie is right -it is all in the glass. It's probably also all in the advice. If you are wanting to get the sort of results we are seeing at the moment on the forum then you will need a SLR type of camera with interchangeable lens. No 'point and shoot, no matter how good the guy from Noel leemings thinks it is, will do that job. Find the Camera body you want and you might find different prices available.Generally speaking any lens sold with a camera in that price point is average. Look at getting the body only and upgrading the lens. You are better having a $1200.00 body with a $1000.00 lens than a $1600.00 body with a $600.00 lens. I hope the moderators don't take this off because they see it as advertising or something. But I thought it might give you ideas. http://www.photowarehouse.co.nz/ But remember cameras don't have souls and I've yet to hold one that can take a picture.

Ask your local LFS to get some in. they will know if they are still on wholesalers list.
  17. I've seen Jewel parents almost take out an Oscar once they got moving with their young.
  18. David R - love that 4th shot, it could be a poster 4 a 60's horry movie. Nice.
  19. Love George! they have a great temperrament. One of my younglings-probably georgette based on head shape. blue/green dempsey fry Rose Red Ruby Red Red Empress EBJD-female Uaru Copadichromis Azureus pair-spawning Mono Kadango Chilumba red flush
  20. Update- the babies are almost finished their larval stage and becoming fry. They look to be about 7mm so hopefully will exit the cave in the next week. Red circle shows a couple of the young, and yellow square is of another female( different from first Mum), who is hanging around outside.
  21. I recently swapped my breeding pair, but kept the biggest male from the last spawn. His growth rate is amazing, and what a guts. I agree with the rest in terms of 'peacock like' behaviour as a general description, but they will bully some of the smaller more passive peacocks, and fryeri which they are very prone to Xcrossbreed with. Beautiful fish- I wouldn't imagine too many issues with your fish. This was my male -he was 1 yr old and was only really starting to get his blue colouring coming through. I'm not sure what variety we get here, some varieties will colour up a lot more blue than others. Here is a link which gives you some of the variants. http://www.cichlidforum.com/profiles/re ... ?genus=141 Others may have an idea of what we have.
  22. I'm going there today to grab some stuff so will mention this post to Bruce .
  23. Space invaders "Table top in Colour'. A flashier more evolved version of an earlier model but still confined to dark corners.
  24. Yep-I could see that as a challenge in Hans' Tank.
