  1. Ok, so they can go to Jen's tomorrow. Will hopefully go pick them up mid-morning-noon. And if there is too many fish, some could go to Craig in Amberley with some filter media or that Trademe offer in Leeston (who has some filters at the ready).
  2. Haven't heard from her directly but another of our uni friends has & has evacuated some of her fish. She won't have power/water yet I'd imagine. It was her birthday on Thurs too Ismart has a generator which is helping heat his tank but no filter. Would his fish be better staying put or going to a new uncycled tank? I'm worried about sending fish to uncycled tanks, especially if they are gonna be well stocked. What do people think about this? I think all our houses are in the area that is having new overland power poles installed so we're gonna be about a week without power, then will have cycling issues once its back on??? Advice please!!!
  3. Ismart is in Shirley and has no power yet. Can anyone take his fish temporarily? He has no transport atm so if someone can go and pick them up, awesome, otherwise I can help with that. It's a 4-ft community worth of fish. Ohh and Trilobite is in the same situation, not sure how many fish/fighters at this stage. If the same person could take them, would be one trip cos she's in Burwood. I'd take them all, but I'm already staying at Antwans with all my evacuees too No more tanks. If needed I will be able to go pick up them all up since my abandoned house is in the same area.
  4. I'm picking up a refugee plec today. Only survivor from Mum's work's tank. Not sure how large it is but if it's too big we don't have space. Could anyone take it on temporarily?
  5. Whew, evacuated all my tanks. Of our club, I'll go through the list and see who hasn't been heard from... So far: Dcase Mad Whip (but think I heard him on radio yesterday and he is basically ok) Tyrannosaurus (but haven't heard from her for ages, since before last one) So of anyone has any news from them, let us know updates: Notjustcichlids is ok, just lost water out of tanks again. Lynnie & family ok (they lost tanks last time, this time ok, no damage) Elusive fish & family ok and in Hanmer now Janelle ok and also has escaped city for now
  6. There wasn't any power/phone/water on in Shirley, so I imagine Alan's place is similar, prob is fine but just out of contact. *fingers crossed* My tanks are standing, just lots of water lost & still no power. Have covered in blankets & will have to hope for the best as not sure when I'll return home. Fishfreak in our club has lost all his though
  7. From Orana's facebook: "has no structural damage following the earthquake. All animals are fine. We will be closed today"
  8. I'm going on a fieldtrip to the place I work  Wonder if I can get $20 refunded from my fees.
  9. http://www.mirc.com/ Try downloading this program is Mibbet isn't cooperating.
  10. Please RSVP by the day before since nibbles, dinner, drinks and dessert will be provided. Please bring $5 toward your meal (if you can't pay, contact Jennifer to arrange an alternative).
  11. I wish that goldfish had their own category so I didn't have to wade through all their listings
  12. Of all the fish I'm looking after at the moment, I like the shellies best. Their behaviour is so interesting. I have to be really careful to feed both sides of the tank at the same time, cos if the babies on one side spot the opposite side's food drifting down first, they get tempted to cross THE BORDER and then the other territory's owners get very cross which in turn leads to the naughty frys parents getting cross too and then the food is forgotten cos they're too busy watching each other.
  13. With the glofish, the jellyfish gene is IN their genes, they are born that way, the genes are passed on from their parents, they are engineered to be that colour, not injected. Whereas with dyed fish, dyes are injected into the individual fish and are not genetic. A dyed fish would have normal offspring. EDIT: Here's some Wiki links so you can see the difference between dyed and GM fish. Dyed:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Painted_fish GM: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GloFish
  14. How is it terrible for the fish? It doesn't hurt them at all. Maybe you're thinking of the dyed ones, which are injected. They're talking about the GM ones.
  15. Upload the picture to your Photobucket first, then post it as normal
  16. Works for some people "Java moss for sale" "yeah, I'll come get some"
  17. I can't take credit for those photos, they were Antwan's & taken with his camera (mine isn't that good). You'll just have to wait for Jen to return
  18. *goes and counts them* Yup, all still there. It's nerve-wracking looking after such important fish
  19. Today's the day! If anyone needs the address etc last minute, please don't PM or txt or email me cos I won't get it in time. Try Jennifer or Antwan.
  20. Have at look at these threads to see what the last million or so people who asked this discovered  Use search to find even more of the same question. Maybe we should have a sticky of "what fish shops are in X area" viewtopic.php?f=4&t=47503 viewtopic.php?f=4&t=44842 viewtopic.php?f=4&t=44403 viewtopic.php?f=17&t=42197
  21. Ummmm Chatzilla is kinda hard to setup initially.... When it opens, in the bar type /server irc.nzdance.net When that appears, right click on the tab down the bottom and tick 'open this network at startup' Type /join #aquaria to get to our room. Now when you go into preferences, nzdance should be there, below global settings. So you can change your name/quote. In the Lists tab, add an auto command /join #aquaria So now hopefully the chatroom will startup automatically whenever you open Chatzilla. (ps Adblock Plus and an Aussie/English dictionary are my other fave addons for Firefox)
  22. Yup, chatzilla works fine. Try downloading a program like mIRC or Chatzilla for firefox. Mibbit must be full or something.
