  1. And how we laughed, back in June when some of us Chch folk got water ager in our conference goody bags... It has come in handy now!
  2. At Antwans house (Riccarton) he hasn't been, it doesn't smell like chlorine. At mine in Shirley and Donna's in Spreydon, it stinks like a swimming pool! You can use well water if you don't want to buy dechlorinater. eg from South Intermediate School. Lots of schools seem to have wells, rather than be on public supply. Beware if you go to South, I got some horrible itchy mosquito bites on my ankles from all the people spilling the water  They are so itchy it wakes me up at night.
  3. Hrmmmmm.... *goes and checks spam box* Aha! Welcome to the club Will email meeting details. (And here I was wondering if *my* emails go into other peoples spam, since the last 4 people enquiring about TT never got back to me)
  4. Our April Meet and AGM will be held on: Sat Apr 2nd 5.30 onwards At Jennifer's house in Halswell (please pm myself or her for address) Food will be provided this time but please bring $5 to cover it & RSVP so Jen knows how much to prepare. Subs are now due, so we can collect them with plenty of time to spare before we need to pay FNZAS! New members & guests are always welcome

    New Books

I'm trying to figure out the replacement value for my fish books that were ruined during the earthquake. Only 2 are available on NZ book webstores. The others I can fine on bookdepository or Amazon, but some are no longer available. My educated guess is they're worth about $30 each though. Hint: Don't keep your fish books next to the fish tank
  6. Noone here has said anything about claiming falsely (unless I missed it?) so need to lecture us about it
  7. Yeah, I can't get over how they're all just standing around in those clips of the quake... In the Christchurch big ones, you couldn't stand, people were thrown to the ground.
  8. Who believed the world would end in y2k? How did you feel after it didn't? Like you'd wasted all that time living in fear?
  9. Find somewhere that has it's own artesian well that is not connected to the mains and take all your containers to fill up there. Try your local schools, lots of them seem to have wells. Look out for signs on the road at random properties.
  10. Anyone needing well-water, I suggest go have a nosey around your closest schools. Lots of them appear to have their own wells, especially if it's an older school. Remember, well water will still need to be boiled just in case if you plan to DRINK it, but if it's not on the mains it shouldn't be chlorinated.
  11. Japan's turn now. Just had a 7.1 off the coast. Tsunami warnings? (It's well off the coast so lets cross fingers for no or little damage to them)
  12. Get the fluval. I broke 1 tiny little part in my Eheim and it will cost $30+ to replace it. It's doing the job for now, but if it gets worse I'd far rather buy a new Fluval or even AquaOne than replace that ripoff little part.
  13. How many Ws is it? Suitable for 250L?
  14. Does anyone have a heater I can borrow for my 4ft until I can save to get a new one? It was a 300W Aquaone and it just doesn't turn on anymore! Not sure if I can claim for it 'cos it doesn't look broken. Maybe water pouring onto the multiboard (which still works) killed it?
  15. Or go on a trip to somewhere with it's own well and fill up a big supply of buckets and containers - Humvees house (you've met her), Orana Park, Willowbank, anyone on a farm? I keep seeing random houses about the city with signs up saying they have a well on their properties too.
  16. Actually, triangle of life is not the best idea as it depends on too many variables. Experts do NOT recommend it over stop/drop/hold. DO go under a desk (old, heavy ones, not flatpack warehouse ones) or a doorway. You want to protect your head most of all. And please stop spreading that disinformation http://www.stuff.co.nz/national/christc ... cover-hold http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Triangle_of_Life http://www2.bpaonline.org/Emergencyprep ... -copp.html http://www.snopes.com/inboxer/household/triangle.asp
  17. Ken Ring sickens me, scaring vulnerable people. My boss is taking a holiday and leaving the city on the week he's next predicted a big one cos she's so afraid.
  18. I moved back home tonight but am without fish for now Will probably have to move the tank to get the carpet professionally cleaned (possibly replaced?) + scared of more earthquakes + scared of chlorination + scared of having to reset filter so the fish might have to stay at Antwan's a bit longer. We will ring EQC later next week to ask these questions, but in the mean time does anyone have any ideas? We didn't need to claim for the first quake so are a bit clueless. a) EQC site says something about 1 claim per dwelling. I'm technically a boarder, with a separate insurance company to the homeowners. Do we still submit all our house/contents claims together or do they do their own stuff/house separate to my contents? b) Their house's carpet is (possibly) damaged by my fishtanks. My contents includes liability, so am assuming it will all be ok... I remember Jen saying something about a probe to check underlay dampness. Did the assessors have this? Does anyone have a probe we can borrow to check? At this stage we aim to get it cleaned and then wait for the assessors to see if it needs replacing too. Hopefully it won't be a headache with having 2 insurance companies. c) Is there some sort of flat rate payout for food in the fridge/freezers? I didn't take any photos or make a list before chucking all the stuff out earlier in the week
  19. Hi Rebecca & Jason! Robyn here, glad to see you on the forums. & yup, you have the right Jen. Dechlorination stuff can be bought at any petshop, just head for the nearest one that is open. I know Redwoods, Organism, Proud Paws (Northlands Mall) and Pet World (Ferry Rd) are at least, but probably others too. It is just a little bottle of liquid that you add a few drops to your tap water to treat. Depending on what size bottle you get, you'll probably need to spend between $10-$20.
  20. Coffee (mocha) Day or night?
  21. Metal Laptop or Desktop computer
  22. I'm bringing all the ornaments I forgot from my house over here tomorrow morning if you'd like any.
