  1. There's no steam as it's electric!
  2. It's days like these I'm glad my tank is still only 75% full.... Apparently there's no power on my side of town Antwan & flatmates tanks have only spilt a little bit. When will he learn to not put the powerpoints right below the tank with no drip loops  University has been evacuated
  3. You're in a mansion and the power's out. You see a green door and a red door. Pick one (it doesn't matter which.) Now you see a purple door and a orange door. Pick one (again, it doesn't matter which you pick). Now you see a door with a golden handle and a door with a silver handle. Pick one. You finally come to some signs on three doors. One says "Death from drowning," another says "Death from machine guns," and the last one says "Death from electric chair." Then you see a big sign off to the side that says "Or stay in the mansion and starve to death." What do you choose and still live?
  4. Yusssss I thought I was the only one who thought Dr Suess was overrated nonsense! I'll +1 Beatrix Potter though I was terrified of the one with Samuel Whiskers.
  5. I was flicking through a huge range of little golden books at a market the other day, did that bring back memories or what.... Try going to op shop/second hand book store & looking for old 80s books. As a flatmate to a 2.5yo I definitely recommend getting books with fewer words for the younger ages so you don't have to read the same long books over & over >_> Spot Maisy Hairy MacLary Bearenstein Bears Richard Scarry Nursery rhymes/Mother Goose Wheels on the Bus (and any other songy type ones, they're fun when the kid learns to sing along)
  6. http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=217075814982525 Facebook page for RSVPing
  7. Sat 18 June Donna's house (please pm myself or her for address) 5pm onwards Please bring a plate of food to share. Hopefully we will be able to hear all about the FNZAS AGM + will get to see all the turtles. New members & guests welcome.
  8. Photos make me sad to not be there Are those fridge magnets?? Are there more? Like, to buy??
  9. Don't get any more turtles, they are solitary, they don't need or want 'friends'. If you get babys your big one will dominate and bully them.
  10. As far as I can see... You can't make an event if you're a page whereas a group can. Therefore I think it's better to stay as a group. I love the TT facebook page. There's been lots of non-member interaction on it recently, nice to see what other Chchians are up to (who may not be interested in joining/using the foum). And soooo handy as a way to get RSVPs to meetings in the event function. I highly recommend it as a communication tool within a club!
  11. Enquiring for someone who sent me an email asking and I have no idea.... Where do you get acrylic tanks from? Or who makes them? This person is in Chch but would probably consider NZ wide places. He is asking as his glass tanks all got ruined in earthquakes. Would an acrylic really be that much better? I know Fishfreaks acrylic tank broke not cos it fell but the wave action's pressure burst a hole in the side
  12. Something in space? A sun/star?
  13. Yeah Ira, I was really offended at you leaving when I said hello. How dare you. "dinner". Whatevs.
  14. That's someone who studies fish. I'd say "freshwater biologist" or "freshwater ecologist" if you're looking at the whole environment.
  15. Tonight! Still not sure what food to bring... Sausage rolls? Mmmmm pastry....
  16. Both myself & my boyfriend have been doing water changes from taps at his flat in Upper Riccarton, doesn't smell cholrinated & no negative affects. Your water should be fine if you can't smell it. Is it just me or does it smell stronger from the hot taps? (At my house in Shirley anyway)
  17. Google says yes. If you're not sure if you do, you probably don't. It's a very obvious smell if you do, feels like I'm at a swimming pool when I take a shower at home. What suburb are you in?
  18. I've been doing all my waterchanges by carting it over in buckets/large containters from non-chlorinated parts of the city or wells not on the main supply. This might not be as feasible for a pond though.
  19. Our May meeting will details are: Date: Sat 7th May Time: 5pm onwards Location: Carznkat's house in Hornby (please pm for exact address) Bring: a plate of food to share Meetings are mainly social, a chance to chat with fellow fishkeepers & get advice/ideas. New members and guests are welcome. Familys welcome.
  20. Are they bell frogs (big and green) or whistling tree frogs (little and brown)?
  21. Agreed. My tank very rarely smells bad. Maybe only if I stick my face right over the top after I've been stirring things up, rearranging.
