She sounds sensible to me. I tend to get fish that swallow bubbles of air, then get stuck at the surface til they burp or something and can swim downwards again.

What? Well, I suppose maybe he means the eel would eat any insects/possums that fell in? But they wouldn't get rid of the bacteria and would produce their own waste and ammonia.

I think where in the city we are really affected things, like the surrounding few blocks here in Shirley look fine, but then neighbouring suburbs, mere minutes drive away, (New Brighton, Dallington, St Albans) were some of the worst hit. My 4ft only lost 3-4cm of water, it's lengthways east-west and sitting on a desk. I'll ask permission from the other friends sharing their photos.

An article would be really good. Another thing I was wondering about was stands where the tank is inset vs just sitting on top. Cos if it's inset, it's basically one taller structure, which could fall over easier? But sitting on top means it could just slide off?

Noone said brand was relevant, just gave some examples so people would know what type of tank/stand I meant. & yup, all my tanks have stands that have a larger footprint.

Several other friends of mine had their fish tanks topple too, and are having trouble getting the glass out of the carpet. Interestingly, they have been complete-setup type ones, with matching cabinets like Aquaone or Jebo (dunno exact brands). I'm glad all tanks at my house were on unofficial, sturdy stands like desks.

Is your 6ft ruined or just out of commission til the ramp it fixed?? SEA also had water all over the floor and some of the fish that sloshed out died. No glass broken and I haven't heard anything about the building so I assume it's ok? But all the stock in the shop was all over the floor, lots of glass ornaments and clothes/soft toys will be ruined. Orana Park had a lemur drown in the moats

Donna is ok, just lots of water sloshed everywhere. Looks like cellphones are gonna go down soon, and we're being told to not use phone too much... Dooo doo dooo... I wanna help out people I know with broken tanks but we're not meant to drive unnecessarily? So I might stay home a few more hours then see.

I can't believe this watching the news. Didn't realise how bad it was, we are really lucky we have no damage here. Like I said in the other thread... Take this as a proper warning, DO make a disaster survival kit. We didn't have proper torches or batteries or a radio. Get brackets on your heavy furniture and fish tank shelves! Especially multi-shelved ones! DO IT! My bookcase fell on my bed literally the moment I lept out of it (I wouldn't have been hurt, it caught on the bedhead, but the books were everywhere)
