  1. Sounds awesome, I'd definitely be keen to come on the crawl or at least the bbq part.
  2. If the tank's been empty and the filters haven't been running then the bacteria will have died off. So yes, cycle again.
  3. I'm not really interested in the competitive side of things, but I saw some of the tanks from this competition in person & thought they were awesome looking. The entrant was obviously very pleased with them & had learnt quite a bit about how to do a planted tank. I was then myself inspired to go home & rearrange my tank (also following those florist principles from the last mag. great article!) and now I feel really pleased with my tank & am itching to start up another tank. (mts!) Good example of how having a competition benefits the hobby, even if in just a small way?
  4. We should stop threadjacking now... My name is from toy spiders that Mum used to buy my brother & I from the supermarket. They had a thing you squeezed to make them jump. We would call them break dancing spiders. It does not stand for 'bondage and disciple spider'.
  5. Awwww Spoon, bad spelling doesn't necessarily irritate me, it's people who spell like they're texting or like they're 12 years old and retarded, wif da dis an' da dat an' da juss. And also wrong usage of your and you're.... *eye starts twitching*
  6. It's ok, I'm just poking fun I thought it sounded genuinely funny. Congrats on the breeding, I love synos.
  7. Hi Donna, I saw Shelley & friends at the christmas grotto today! Very cool.
  8. Some sort of plecos! Like, a bristlenose sucking on a piece of courgette. Cute! Moar catfish!!!!!! Kuhli heads popping out of the gravel? An angelfish.
  9. Everythings well underway. I'm looking forward to it, should be great fun once it all comes together
  10. Great photos & story, thanks for sharing!
  11. I want some too! Gotta get a cage first though
  12. Soak cat biscuits in water. That's what the animal & bird hospital used to recommend when I fostered ducklings.
  13. I just finished reading The Parrot That Owned Me by Joanna Burger. It's about an ornithologist and her red lored Amazon parrot, Tiko. My understanding of parrots has completely changed, I realised they were intelligent but had no idea how complex their social interactions are. Unfortunately, I have also developed a huge amount of pity for the ones out there that aren't in loving homes or stuck in places where they can't make bonds with a 'flock' (parrot or human).
  14. They're pretty strong, they'd prob hold up nicely with gardening. I was real paranoid when I did the dishes that night, didn't wanna spoil the polish from the heat. Oh yeah, I had a broken nail (well, cut in half with bread knife nail actually) and now it's all glued together & secure it is awesome! Not catching on things anymore, yay!
  15. Lol @ 'sissy'. Andre was such a crack up. I'm loving my nails too, it's such a novelty.
  16. Could be cheaper to just buy a new tank. If they have to buff too much, the glass is thinned & not as strong.
  17. The underwater observatory is pretty cool. I went there ages ago but it hadn't rained in a while so the freshwater layer wasn't as deep as usual so it wasn't as dark as normal down there. Not in a photo club or anything. My good photos are mainly just luck, got to get as close to the subject as possible (flash doesn't penetrate water very far) and try and hold as still as possible (difficult when you're trying to battle currents & buoyancy). We drove there, flying is far too expensive! Also, you're not meant to fly after diving cos you'll get the bends. We had to wait about 4 hours after the last dive before driving over the hill, just as a precaution since the road is at such a high altitude. Ohh that reminds me, I was reading in their local rag about the guy who does commentaries on the cruise ships that visit the sound & the stupid questions he gets asked eg "How high about sea level is Milford Sound?" Haha, I could write a book on stupid questions/comments that American tourists have asked me.
  18. Does anywhere offer free business mentoring or courses in your area? I'm pretty sure there's a program that allows you to get free mentoring but I dunno if there's criteria.
  19. Hi Chchians Our December meeting will be held on Sat 5th at Halswell. 5 pm onwards (wow, lots of 5s there... easy to remember ) As usual, please bring food to share. We will have access to a bbq, so meats & salads would be good. New people & visiting fishos from other cities are welcome!
