  1. PH and nitrate were algood, will test ammonia nitrite when i can, I added some more driftwood and turned out one of the light tubes which has made the Dempsey more active, but still no sign of the eel over the last week or so...
  2. Ever since moving my fish into a new tank about a month ago, they my electric blue dempsy and tire track eel have'nt been eating and have been very shy. There not even keen on bloodworms anymore. - In the old tanks they'd demolish bloodworms, flies, earthworms etc and were very confident and eat from my hand. Since moving them to a bigger tank they're not so happy. Any ideas why they're sulking and how to fix?? Cheers
  3. I have a Tire Track Eel who seems to be sulking a bit since moving him to a new tank over a week ago. He's hiding and doesn't eat out of my hand like he used to ( doesn't even get excited about any food at the moment) and is burying under the substrate too which i know is normal - but its not 'normal' behavior form him. Im also kind of trying to get him off bloodworms, but he hasn't ate anything for over a week so not sure weather i should give in or not. Im trying whitebait at the moment but no luck. any other suggestions? and is it worth me giving him an earthworm (which he usually cant resist) just so he doesn't starve - or should i keep waiting.
  4. Good point - its 1200 x 500 x 500 - 300L. Think i'll go with the ctenopoma and like the idea of a butterfly too. Prob not a bichir -I think prefer the eel.
  5. im after ideas for some more oddballs to put in my 4 foot tank. Already to be moved in there is my blue Dempsey, Tiretrack eel and Pictus cat(will probably get a couple more Pictus too) wondering if a Leopard Ctenopoma will work, i've always wanted one but might be too shy with a Dempsey? what do you think?
  6. mmm good point, will probably wait till i am officially getting a larger tank and do a proper job possibly an arowana too.
  7. Damn thats pretty quick. Do they get much bigger, I've read conflicting info - some say max 30cm, other say 60 - 90...
  8. Awesome that'll give me an excuses to upgrade the tank size in a few years.
  9. Im pretty keen to get one too when i change the stocking in my tank. would they be ok in a 4foot tank with Tiretrack eel and Blue Dempsey?
  10. crushed coral in the filter and under the sand ( didn't like the look of it with plants..) worked for me. I was on tank water with no hardness and ph around 6.5, took it up to 7.8 for my africans.
  11. i've got silica sand in my planted tanks too, never really worry about stirring it up as the africans move it around enough, i do find over time i loose a bit of sand from gravel vacuuming, but other than that don't have any problems with it... can look a bit yuck if theres not much flow as all the crud sits on top
