  1. I have to laugh at that as I have 3 x 4fts that only hold 100 litres too, its certainly not always the length that counts is it.
  2. now 10 weeks a couple of the males, my biggest dark red wouldn't come to the front of the tank and pose, he's in a bigger tank sharing with two other males (divided tank that is) and my 8 week old yellows - some of the males, pictures taken through the tank glass and blue fighter holders. looks like a reasonably even split between males and females.
  3. Those ones have thrown to 'cambodian'. The males will eventually develop some pigmentation or sheen to their bodies, the females are less likely to. I have noticed that more and more of mine seem to be throwing that way which was always going to happen seeing that my 5th and 6th male fighters ever purchased were cambodians and I have retained that line.
  4. actually - no not currently, forgot to add them to the list  have had them but not a great quality, found a really nice male by mistake (labelled female at lfs), but he developed dropsy before I had a chance to do anything with him. They're not really my thing but I saw some very nice ones up here last week.

patience now Cam you need to learn the art of patience fish do their own thing in their own good time
  6. lol Cam, you'll have to fly up and look - I've got a good 400 + here at the moment (way too many), but imo you can't have enough. But I don't have any pure black pure white (close though) solid green or coppers and no half moons or plakats but pretty much everything else in between
  7. nice looking fish - I've got one very similar in colour to him.

Everything you can see on their fins is part of the colour they will eventually be and it sounds like their bodies may end up mostly red with perhaps the odd blue. They should colour up properly soon - my yellows are showing their colours now and they are around the same age as yours.
  9. I haven't skied since we came north 11 years ago its not the same when you have to drive for hours and hours although my niece and nephew have just purchased a caravan for when they go to the fields
  10. Yes it is normal - if the tank is peaceful and he is happy enough he will swim up and down. Its also normal for them just to hang in a corner but they look much nicer in action.
  11. sometimes you can and sometimes you can't depends on the nature of the fish, I have had a tank with over 50 males in it and no trouble ever but the norm has been that when they get to about 9-10 weeks old the fighting begins. I'm talking a 4ft tank.
  12. they were plakats - a type of fighter, their tails were fully developed.
  13. I have 40 - 60 females together at any one time in some of my tanks and 99% of the time they are just fine. I add and remove constantly.

    Bloat?

First picture I'd say egg bound - if she is too fat she won't be able to release the eggs when the male wraps around her or the male is not big enough to squeeze her. Second picture I'm not sure but the female is a different shape to the first. If its dropsy when you look down on her you will see the pine cone effect on her i.e. the scales sticking out. If females are full of eggs they will eventually just release them into the tank where they will be eaten.
  15. have your got angels in the tank - they will suck the fry through
  16. .. they are growing like weeds, just goes to show how great brineshrimp is 8) I had heard it mentioned on here that you couldn't feed bbs to cichlids which had me rather confused because my kribs were doing really well on it. Glad to hear it was only a myth
  17. you taken the driftwood home for the big tank you can build on your lawn?
  18. Glad you had a great time and a big welcome to the new President ....
  19. Sometimes its just the age of the fish - when you buy from the lfs you really have no idea how old the fish are.
  20. My males used to sing with the females in there.
  21. i didn't think male guppies were ever too old!
