  1. I used a furniture trailer (like a horse float) to bring my 5ft up from Napier to Auckland. Padded if out well using blankets and duvets and there was no problem. However if you wanted to do this just check that a 6ft would fit. It wasn't expensive to hire from what I remember.
  2. I must be deaf then cos the last time I asked 'the' question about 'the' fish the shop workers went into hysterics
  3. I like I really like NO!!!!! I really really really like\ and I want some toooooooooooo
  4. I saw one a few weeks ago at HFF Mt Roskill. Very Very nice and it was around the $150 mark. The sign was still on the tank yesterday but I couldn't see the plec. It may have been behind the very large ball of moss.
  5. well mine look way more like that than the last pic I saw of maccus posted on here. Trouble is they don't actually appear to be photographed. There is quite a difference in the markings of some of them too. Some are way more blotchy and the others are well defined. If I want to catch one and handle it for a pic whats the best way to go about it?
  6. well Phoenix - am I even remotely close???
  7. One of the pretty peckoltia species - L080? Looks very very much like some of mine.

The 'maccus' - is that one of the pretty peckoltias like I have in my tanks as its nearly identical to some of mine. I say some because I have the ones with very clearly defined stripes and others way more blotchy which I think may be the females. These are also by far the fattest and they are shortly to get their own tank. Do you have any longfin bns?

  11. I've got marble queen and it easily makes 60cm
  12. I've had my discus tank set up for over two years now. 20 months ago I purchased 50 cardinals, I am now down to my last 2. 18 months ago I inherited about 45 rummynose tetras (no idea how old they were at the time but they were adult size, I still have 25 of these. At the same time I inherited about 30 neons, these died off within about 12 months. My opinion is that the rummynose do best in the 30 degree temperatures. They also school nicely and look good and bright.
  13. Sorry to burst your bubble but for a decent piece its about $28. Rangitoto/Motutapu is your best bet. Take a day trip and a tramping pack. The ferry staff don't mind you bringing back the odd piece larger than a pack Believe it or not I purchased a piece in CHCH last weekend and then went to the beach at Lake Ellesmere to fill up a bag with it.
  14. Nice to hear from you Jono. Hows Aussie?
  15. Good luck with your efforts. I had my rummynose breed 15 months ago (first noticed it when I saw a fry about 1cm long). Only 1 fry was sighted and is still growing. I went on holiday and while water changes were done the tank was not vacuumed for 11 days therefore there was quite a bit of dead leaf mulch on the bottom of the tank. The lights were also not turned on for this time. About a month after I returned home I saw the young one. I have been told these are also hard to breed so maybe the idea of leaving them be as much as possible is the best. After all they don't have people watching over them in the wild
  16. I have to be honest and say I am not really sure but if they look fine and you don't inbreed with them I would think any fry are more likely to be okay than not. I would try it but then again I do like to experiment (but not with siamese fighters anymore ).
  17. Just remember that with guppies females can continue to produce many batches of fry for many months after they were originally impregnated. I can't remember how long but I think its around the 4-6 months timeframe. Therefore I would keep these two girls away from males for around another 6-8 weeks to make sure that the next batch of fry is not from the male they mated with before you got them.
  18. Definitely breed her with one of your males. The fry may have been the result of too much inbreeding.
  19. You'll know he's a male when he sits on the tv remote control thats resting on the couch arm
  20. Don't know what happened to my post yesterday - it was supposed to say that the raw peanuts in shells you are talking about are sometimes known as monkey nuts.
