  1. Your design is nearly identical to the sump I had for my 450 litre tank when I first purchased it except for the separate area for the heater. I put one heater in where the 'fry' area is and a second in the area by the return pump.
  2. No idea is bad - some are just very hard to do. What about creating an outdoor pond and covering it with something like a tunnel house, that way you could keep some warmth in and have an area big enough to try breeding
  3. Not as yet but a couple are looking very promising. They are still not huge but the parents are about 5cm+. These are still quite small but they are very stroppy and god help me if two males get in together. They show what the word fighters really means
  4. fantastic to see jono - I knew there were some beauties over there and I know you have great success breeding them. I know this is your thread but heres a few for you to look at - The first two are some of your males, the others are their resulting spawn crossed with the yellow mustard gas female. I still have her and the first male pictured and will probably spawn them next week - just have to find out where I can put another tank up. Might have to come inside with this one as the shed is chocker
  5. Depending on where you are I am keen as I wish to get some more
  6. Thailand is a beautiful country and Bangkok is a great city to visit. I've been a few times with and without children and feel completely at home in the city. The markets are great. 'How do you know if the stuff is fake?' If you buy from a stall and/or they let you barter for it then it is not going to be genuine. The real deal will only come from certified dealers. Its pretty much the same everywhere overseas.
  7. as the title says - does anyone own one and what your opinion on it. Thanks

    i.d. please

Well she must have had strong genes. I've crossed a double tail once before and not had any double tails out of the spawn.

Didn't you like my suggestion? Okay, so the father is a ct and imo he's not bad looking but what was the mother?

Definitely a double tail with crowntail. Did you cross these or did you breed from fish already crossed? IMO they would be nice double tails if you got rid of the crowns - anyone got a pair of scissors? lol
  11. Ah ha!! The reason is now revealed. You'll have to use something smaller like a cup to transfer the water in and then the glosso will stay in the substrate. I don't think you have enough control over the flow rate from a bucket (or at least I certainly wouldn't).
  12. the sword you sent me has flowered and the flower is out of the water!
  13. blame the green water on the heat and humidity, I had all my discus up sucking air yesterday afternoon as my tank hit 33 degrees! try pouring water into a chinese takeaway container or something with a lip so that it has to trickle over the edge and see if that helps at all.
  14. It sounds very good but I would think that with a 'divider' down the middle you would need 2x fx5 filters. I run one on my 450 litre tank and while the flow is 'good' its not over the top for discus as it has to get around the drift wood at one corner.
  15. as I said they look like my 'pretty peckoltias' which when they came in people thought were maccus.
  16. Wonder if it was like a deep seated blood blister that has broken up and is finally dispersing and disappearing.
  17. I can't remember the price but they came in (from Germany I think) with the second shipment of HFF a few weeks back. There were not many and I haven't seen anymore since.
  18. Happy new year Ron may it be a great one!
  19. Thanks I got 4 longfin - one has bristles so definitely male and way bigger, the one in the pic is the next size down. The smallest has much shorter fins and tail without the white edging so I would say very likely to be a female. I was a bit mean - when I was asked which 4 I wanted I replied ' I want 2 males and 2 females' then nearly fell over laughing. However this may well be what I in fact did get. I have wondered if the two bigger spotted bn or 'whatevers' may be a pair as the second one in size is a lot plumper looking. The 3 smaller ones are way way way smaller, only about 4-5cm max. Good luck with your spawn. I'll be interested to see how they turn out.
  20. Heres some pics of my biggest, grumpiest and far most dominant spotted bn. He rules the roost and attacks anything that comes near his bit of wood. this is his partner in crime (another male?) and the next one down in size I have 6 of them. I was going to move them into the 3ft I am getting tomorrow but I think I might leave them in the 250 litre 4ft and move my pretty peckoltias instead. I only have 5 of them and they are way slower growing than these ones. I've already had to move out my 4 long finned bn. (pic below) opinions on the above appreciated. thanks
  21. Oh my ...!! I can just see what my discus would do if I had one of those in the tank and I can just see what that would do to all my nice tall growing plants!! Better for the swimming pool me thinks but everyone to his own.
  22. Are you sure that the size of the stomach is not just the way its sitting - just like a guy with a beer gut slouched on the couch or (to keep the males happy) a pregnant woman trying to work leaning forward
  23. In theory an insurance company should cover the cost of an empty tank if it is dropped under household insurance. Its a household item after all and it wasn't dropped on purpose!
  24. My ears sore..... been keeping it on the ground while riding my motorcycle.... and I still don't have anything really good
  25. Given what I was told about 3 weeks ago by the most reliable source I know up here I would say no. The best way to find out is to go to one of the bigger stores who import and ask - thats what I did.
