  1. We have one of those, we used to have two! They've bought the bike sight unseen and now just have to work how they are getting it up here. Currently getting quotes from firms to truck it to Auckland.
  2. My opinion is similar to Caryl. People do keep their livebearers in the traps until they spawn, however heaps of plants in your tank and in particular floating ones or ones that are leafy i.e. indian fern and spread the height of your tank will 1. give the females somewhere to hide 2.give the fry a place to hide from the adults. Unless you are breeding for a purpose and want every single fry to survive then this is a good realistic option that does as nature should (only the strong should survive). If you put platys in the trap they may abort anyway and some will hold onto the fry until you give up and release them anyway
  3. Thats because most of the ones the pet shops sell are the pet of the month or two for children, then they don't want them and they end up at the SPCA unfortunately!
  4. wonder if its some sort of infection, do you have any meds that you could use for a bacterial infection (internal or external).
  5. welll I've got plenty of water sprite if you want to come into Epsom and get it
  6. so is it a blue ram? or a cross
  7. He's good thanks. He only sold off his TL1000 mid last year.
  8. my sons seen your bike around Morcs. He's squiggles from kiwibiker and one of the ringleaders of the acc protest action.
  9. a small bike for my sons partner to tootle in and out of uni on.
  10. Are any of you into motorcycles and does anyone have a contact who may be able to transport a motorcycle up to Auckland for not too much? Thanks
  11. You have to be careful getting a boy as the female needs to be pretty young when she has her first litter otherwise there are problems and you will most probably lose her.
  12. Nice fish David - welcome back. Those hmpk mustard gas could have been my fry as they look identical to the ones in my growout tanks. Question though - are you sure they are 5cm at 9 weeks - thats two inches so if they're that big I'll have some of what you are feeding them!!!

    TEMPS

Well our house was 26 degrees last night so no chance my tanks are going to drop lower than that anyway
  14. Bristlenoses have never been an issue with my discus. There are other sorts of fish that are certainly more likely to do that than the bn.
  15. from my understanding its best to read up on the subject and then mimic the wild conditions - thats if you can get a pair.
  16. and not only as phoenix44 says but you will know that the fish is the real deal
  17. yep - two children are easy but man, when the third arrives you may as well have half a dozen. Been there, done that, gave up on the fish when they were young and after 13 years started again nearly 4 years ago My fighters are still not 3 months old yet and the tails are slowly growing and off course with the hmpk they are hard to sex anyway, but they are colouring up and there are some nice looking mustard gas colouring up now.
  18. check this site out www.loaches.com - both this and another I googled recommend that they are kept in groups of 3 or more. This will make them more sociable and relaxed.
  19. I would ring to let them know and then they could at least check to make sure that the others don't have it. I don't think they should have to pay for the cost of medications as its a case of 'buyer beware' and certainly the shops up here have signs to that effect. I was asking as to what fish because my first treatment for white spot is to up the temperature and salt the tank but khuli loaches won't cope with that so you'll need to go down the medications route instead. Keep the water changes going daily as vacuuming will remove the cysts that drop off due to the increased temp. If you do up the tank to 30 it would be advisable to add an airline as well.
  20. what else is in your community tank and is it planted - if so with what, oh! and ring animates and tell them. Trouble is they may have 'developed it' on the way home.
  21. Don't quote me on this but I think I read somewhere that it is possible (mind you what I read may have been incorrect!!)
  22. I have quite a few ct, hm and mustard gas hmpk (young still) but have had to slow down due to too many hours working, parenting (like you) etc. Some very nice young ones coming along but at this stage 99 out of 100 appear to be females.

Don't think so as am running 4 lights sitting directly on top of the tank so so room for any breeze from a fan to go past
  24. Well, the fact that they bred in the first place says that you have the basics right. IME some spawns of fish are stronger than others anyway. They say practice makes perfect. Good luck with the remaining two and keep posting.
