  1. excellent shots - what sort of camera P44 (not that its just the camera, its your skill as well as your beautiful plants)?
  2. I would go for something with yellow on it if you want it to stand out in a planted tank. I have 5 fancy plecs in my 5ft and I just about never ever see them.
  3. I got some last week. Its charcoal so the same as charcoal in density . Easy to rinse, I just stuck mine in a drum and turned the hose on and swirled it around for a while. Doesn't go up the filter as not as fine as sand and no problems gravel vacuuming.
  4. If you had a spare tank and raised babies then you would be a discus breeder
  5. Not in a tank with that many fish he's not. It will become like a battlefield in your tank if you have a pair guarding eggs, particularly if they are fertile but good luck anyway.
  6. Heard that you had been in to get them yesterday. I believe you had your eyes on something else as well They are neat fish - I have three but don't often see them which is such a shame.
  7. Good idea - mine always spawn on the filter uptake and as the eggs turn into wrigglers and detach they end up going up into the filter (or into the harlequins mouths). However, mine won't spawn when they are removed from the main tank
  8. OOOhhhh YESSSS!! I'm in
  9. I agree that its not likely to be a good thing putting them together. Can you contain one of them or both of them within the tank so they can not get too close to each other. If they are both male they may fighter and if the gourami is female the male betta may still annoy it. You're not really going to know until you try it but it may be too have an alternative close at hand. Good luck.
  10. You forgot the rubber gloves Zev Set the mouse trap now!
  11. I was wondering what Joe was doing on the forums during the day today and was going to ask why. But then I guess I am just as guilty
  12. As some of you are aware I lost my male hongsloi about 4-5 weeks ago. He went very quiet and developed a woolly growth under one eye. Died within 24 hours, too early for the furan treatment to kick in. I managed to locate a replacement male, due to the kind offer from another forum member and he arrived about 10 days ago from the South Island. However, two days ago the female became very quiet, and when she did swim she swam right into everything (I believe she had gone blind very suddenly). Despite starting furan the moment I noticed it, last night she too died.
  13. Brilliant - thank you so much for posting the link
  14. google them = they are food grade barrels I believe. Sometimes also sold on tm. Just make sure that what has been stored in them is fish safe.
  15. yes they are but I just leave the eggs - I think I mostly vacuum up the young though. I haven't been game enough to remove the eggs because I have read of so many ways to do so. I had one survivor last year and so far 4 this year which has kept the no. pretty much the way it was when I first stocked the tank. These eggs look pretty good so here's hoping.
  16. I only use an additive in my discus tank. All my fighter tanks are filled straight from the hose. Funnily enough the discus tank is the only one with issues
  17. Do you need a magnifying glass. Its a browny red looking blotch on the left hand side near the glass. Its partly hidden by the rapidly growing pup from tank busting sword plant you supplied me with. I love that big plant - its great
  18. It does to those regulars on this forum who read my previous thread. This is my discus tank which I have had to restart.
  19. Is that because they are very sensitive to water conditions? I added them for this very reason and secondly because I have over 200 young rams taking over my tanks at home.
  20. It still is then with green tips? Does that sound right or do I need to move it so its right under the T5HO? In my tank thread you can just see it at the left hand side of the tank.
  21. Is that the red plant on the right when you look at the screen? If not what is that one?
  22. Thanks Phoenix - I'm really pleased with the look of it. All the plants from you are taking off. Still can't work out which of the you know what is which
  23. I've got fish in there - 10 young bolivian rams and 17 sterbais (13 of them adults and 4 juveniles). I don't imagine they are going to put much pressure on the filter for a while to come
