  1. HI, I can't see your picture so would you please try again at posting one.
  2. Yes, congratulations to you both. Well done!

    Golden Rams!

Mine were definite pairs but unfortunately it didn't help them. There are people in NZ who have no trouble breeding and raising theirs but I don't know what the secret it. Mine developed a single white pimple looking spot on the head right between the eyes before they died. I haven't tried again with blue or golds but my bolivian rams spawn like there is no tomorrow! Good luck with your girl.
  4. same as Ryan - thats what took all my rams out too.
  5. lol - thats what I thought too. Why not! Can't get a pic atm as he is in the back half of the 60cm tank. The only way I could fit another fighter in was to cut the tank in half
  6. Well, I just went back and purchased a second giant fighter. Blue with red and blue on the tail. Bigger than the yellow boy.
  7. About 6.5 - 7cm in length. Its the depth of the body that makes him stand out from my ordinary big fighters in that it is between 1 - 1.5cm deep (from top of body to underneath, underneath being the ventrals side). He also appears to be relatively young - I would say about 5 months old by his behaviour but as you know its pretty hard to tell. He wasn't the biggest but he was the colour that would match my pure plakat females.
  8. Heres a better pic. Two of the three I saw were great looking and the third probably was too but he just wasn't showing off. IMO better quality than the last ones. Heres my boy - overnight he's built a nest 30cm square!
  9. I think - about $68, not certain as I also purchased a couple of other fighters   while I was there plus some other stuff  I honestly did try to say no, in fact I did say no .... but... it kept calling out to me 'buy me' 'pick me'. I would have liked two but I only had one tank spare!
  10. Yes I know  and he's got a female of mine - the sister to the one I am going to use.
  11. Sam - plakat, they look great when flaring.
  12. Heres my boy - got him yesterday. I am intending to put him to one of my mg hmpk girls and hope for the best. He's a solid yellow and I will try to get a better pic of him tomorrow.
  13. One gram per litre of water is the amount I use if I am putting salt in the tanks as a standard dose so you may find you need to go a little more. Good luck
  14. I have to disagree with this. My two pairs of discus managed to raise their fry to wrigglers in a tank that had 6 discus in it. The discus were not the problem, the harlequins were in that the moment the fry started swimming they were an easy dinner. The eggs were only eaten when the pair was young and then it was only the male. Aftr about 6 months it was no longer an issue.

    Golden Rams!

They are lovely fish but I have had no luck keeping them or blue rams (both nz bred) for that matter, alive. Good luck and keep us posted on how you are going.
  17. My children never ever had nits until we moved to Auckland. It must have been too cold in the south island for them to survive. Once we came up here we had a couple of years with dealing with them.
  18. Hi Joe Try sending Barrie a pm as glass is his line of work.
  19. There were witnesses but they didn't stop - I mean where could they stop. It was on the roundabout at Greenlane where it intersects with the southbound onramp on the southern motorway. No rego number as it was the back end of the car that was hit. The car came from the leftmost of the three lanes Will lose the no claims bonus because I suppose in theory we can't prove we were hit by another car although the panel beaters say the car was a 2005 corolla (from the front bumper that hubby did pick up). The cars been assessed however it hasn't yet been able to be seen by the wheel alignment specialists so there is a bit of doubt as to whether the damage may be structural given that the wheel took the direct hit. The cars only 4 months old too.
  20. Today my car (hubby driving) was hit by another car at one of the big roundabouts onto the motorway up here in Aucks. Hubby saw the car coming down the road on his left as he came through the round-a-bout and headed towards the on-ramp. Two lanes of cars stopped but not this one, he just sped on through and clipped the back of our nearly new (4 months old) car. Did he stop - NO! Just floored it and continued on. My husband stopped, picked up the large pieces from the offending vehicle, stuck them in the boot of our car. Fortunately he is not hurt (or so he says although he looks mighty stiff to me). Damage to the car - the back bumper, the panel above the wheel, the rear door panel on the passengers side, the hubcap, the rim and the tyre. Rest of damage to the steering to be determined tomorrow by the panel beaters. Financial cost to us - excess, loss of our 60% no claim bonus which is considerable given we have 6 vehicles insured. Cost in real terms - at least my husband is alive. Hopefully the offending party has a very restless unsettled nights sleep tonight not knowing whether the accident was an injury one or not and develops enough of a conscience to report it to the police where we have also logged a report.
  21. Ooohhh - you are making me itch. All the work that you are doing will not be totally effective if not everyone else around her is doing it. Tea tree oil mixed with citrus works well and using a conditioner also helps to an extent. Its a 7 day cycle and it takes two to tango as they used to say. Be vigilant every night for about 10 days. You will then know if you are missing some eggs or if new adult nits are swinging over to her from her friends or classmates. I would imagine a hair straightener will help but only if you get right down to the base of her hair. Tie her hair and plait it tight. The only thing positive is that at least you know her hair is beautifully clean as they don't like dirty hair! Also check that she is not sharing hats (play things) or hairbrushes with anyone. Taking her out into the sun will help you see them as they move around more. I have also been told by a health professional that you may as well use fly spray as use some of the other cures and it works better.
  22. Yes, when I get around to moving my 5ft (about 18 months time) I hate to think what the carpet will look like  Have had at least 8 spills - some pretty large.
  23. Did your landlord say she had any spare pieces of the carpet? Normally carpet layers can patch it in without it being able to be noticed.
  24. With 100% certainty he will be a delta. When you do decide to have a go at breeding watch him well. My last 3 imported delta's have absolutely slaughtered the first couple of females they have been in with. As a result I have only had one spawn and the other two are in isolation waiting for a new girlfriend.
  25. Frozen bloodworms - I know I notice an increase in dropsy which is ime related to the bloodworms but I also know that other breeders of fighters say they only ever feed bloodworms. Therefore I only feed sparingly and rarely.
