  1. My replacement diffuser is now installed I just need to get a small power head to diffuse the bubbles lower into the tank as the fx5 tends to blow them across to the far wall where they then surface but its better than them bubbling straight to the surface I dose excel anyway so will continue on. I will win the battle
  2. the bristles on my male are minute compared to your boy. Mine are now in my 5ft tank.
  3. Whats the algae Phoenix? I call it hair algae but I have seen that people refer to bba as hair algae. This can develop into a long twisted string and grow about 8cm within a day in my tank, I think that the filter strings it out longer in the current. Treatment?
  4. The tank tonight - Has 16 bolivian rams (all young), approx 17 sterbai cory, 4 clown loaches, 5 bn, 1 tiger plec, 23 harlequins. The discus (the one remaining), is returning this weekend. CO2 is running and there are 2 x 2 T5HO light units, + 1 single T8 on the tank. Requires trimming 2x per week. The only thing that doesn't particularly like the higher light is the windelov fern.
  5. Heres a full tank shot, taken tonight after some more pruning What is this algae? Its the bane of my life, grows like you wouldn't believe during the day and is definitely responding to the T5HO lighting.
  6. My daughter and her boyfriend fly to wellington for $49 each way. Its a case of catching the deals, however you would have to book in advance. Perhaps you could each book seperately and then if she doesn't go you could go alone
  7. Patience grasshopper 'Someone may have been busy Someone may not have volunteered' Something like this takes knowledge, and time and its not always easy to get the accurate information needed.
  8. Okay David, how come you have so much space for more tanks? Have you moved yourself and the family into the fishroom and put the tanks in the house?
  9. I agree, because mine does not like to grow in my tank. I'll post a pic tonight in a different thread.
  10. Here in Auckland they have gone to outdoor tiered parking for some of the apartments near the school where I work. Two cars per park (not sure what happens if the driver parked on the top tier wants to get out while the car below is still there though).
  11. You'll get a mix of hm and hmpk but I would imagine there will be more halfmoon than the hmpk as your male was a plakat/halfmoon x in the first place. Also a mix of colours.
  12. Stunning pics of your plecs everyone. They are all beautiful.
  13. I too am wondering if the fine filter wool is missing. or, if in fact, there are no sponges there letting most of the recycled muck back in. Its pretty unusual for bits of dirt etc to float in any tank if the filter is working.
  14. My understanding is that the L190 are not very sociable either. However someone may correct me on that
  15. Is the filter you have the one inside the tank lid? If so what does it have to stop any muck running back into your tank i.e. filter wool, ceramic noodles?
  16. Murky as in ? How long has the tank been running, what are you feeding and what sort of filter do you have? Is it planted and if so what sort of substrate do you have? Do you gravel vacuum?
  17. lol When I tried to get dt by breeding it never worked out. These are so random I had spent a week debating whether or not to post a pic on here. I think its quite a laugh that I have some so somewhere the genetics must be in the country - the parents of these were not bred by me and were from two different sources. These guys will need to grow much longer bodies imo if they are going to be any good so will keep you updated on their progress and when they get a bit bigger I will know how many there are.
  18. Nearly since day one these have stood out in the spawn as being more stocky than the others. I couldn't work out what was going on as they also have more colouring than their halfmoon siblings and to start with I thought they were deformed. One of them tends to hang out nearer the top of the tank but at this stage the others seem to be swimming normally.
  19. A photo of one of what appears to be about 6 doubletails in my tank of pure halfmoon fighters. Has anyone else had this happen?
  20. No, there were definitely more than 5 in the Mt Roskill Branch.
  21. what are you feeding? One of my males has only just started eating dried food after 3 weeks. Prior to that he would only eat bbs or mozzy lavae.
  22. Works well, I have 2 300 watt heaters in my 450 litre tank, one set two degrees lower than the other and occasions they do both come on together. Its also a great backstop if one fails. If you can afford quality go for it and get two otherwise get one really good one and a cheaper one as the back stop. I find that the jagar heaters run for ever, not sure about the fluval though.
  23. I live very near and I can't grow java moss very well either. With CO2 injection running and the T5HO all I get is this snotty looking brown gunk growing off it or masses of what I call hair algae - long stringy bright green stuff that will grow 10cm in a day. With my other mosses I have no problems, they grow brilliantly.
