  1. awesome Ant. Not often you get them breeding, let alone photos of them breeding. good luck with them.
  2. There is lots of plants that you could use. Depending on lighting as to how they will grow though. You could use , Stargrass , Rotala, Hygrophila, Ludwigia, Ambulia, just to name a few. The less light the taller and more stragley it will grow.
  3. Stop ya moaning and pay my $400 bill for me. Lol I have about 17 tanks over various sizes.
  4. I wouldnt go as far to say that. Everyone starts somewhere. Its just I started years ago and never took it any further. Just because I understand the principal does not mean I am any good.
  5. I feed it initially as an extra that was in my daphnia pond. I was watching the Rainbows and found they would eat the Daphnia first then eat the Wolffia as well. Just to clarify. The Wlfia and daphnia are feed t the Audults during conditioning. Its too big for the fry wh need microscopic foods like infusria or greenwater.
  6. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wolffia Sorry I spelt it wrong. Should have read Wolffia. HTH
  7. Whats with the  ?? It will take me a long time t get back into the swing of things though cos it was like 12 years ago since I studied it. The great thing with the Digital SLR's ar the fact you see results immediately. Unlike film where you had to wait till you could get to the Darkroom again and develop the film and print out a contact sheet to see what you got. It could tke weeks to master a technique whereas with digital its instant. I love it. Photography is something I have always had an interest in but never took it any further than study in 6th and 7th form at school. I still took photos but never tried t do anything with it. Now that I am getting into it again I am going to make the most of what I can. Would have loved to have caught up when I was up Barrie. Could have talked fish and photos. LOL
  8. This is also a very informative site for more info n food and care etc http://members.optushome.com.au/chelmon/Contents.htm
  9. I have copied and pasted a few comments I have made about breeding in the past. Sorry if its repeated. LOL They spawn into mops or clumps of moss suspended just below water surface. Feed up on live foods and do coldwater changes. Gets mine going every time. They spawn in the morning. Eggs are very adhesive. Remove mop daily and place into seperate fry tank, replacing with another mop as the fish spawn over a few days. I have four mops used in rotation. Fry are tiny and require micro sized food. I feed green water and infusoria. Moving up to decap BS and microworms. Daphnia are great for feeding. Rainbows do like a bit of greenery in their diet also. I fed Wolfia. Just remember, small fish mean small fry with tiny bellies. You will need to feed them microscopic infusoria, so have plenty available. I have had success with 1 male 2 female. With larger Rainbows I have used 1 male 1 female , and also a larger group. All successful. Make some mops out of synthetic wool. Buy it at $2 type shops or Redshed. Wrap around a book about 20-40 times. Cut at one end and tie in middle. Easy.
  10. LOL, Im one for expensive hobbies. Lol Lucky I studied Photography when I was younger so most is familier to me and I also own two standard SLR cameras.
  11. They need spawning mops. Will get you some more info tonight. Im supposed to be working at the moment
  12. Right. I bit the bullet and am getting myself the 550d. The only problem is there is no stock available from Canon for a month  Good things take time.
  13. Big thanks to Neon for showing me your tanks. It was nice to meet you. I really like you big planted tank. It looks very nice. I really did not expect you to drive right across Auckland to meet me then drive me all the way back after showing your tanks.
  14. I bred heaps of these. Easy to breed, Just need heaps of food for the fry. Greenwater is good as well as infusoria.
  15. Where did you get the the Java from? It looks a bit like Nitella sp. That is a pic I got off the net. Not sure what type. There are many different forms and it grows in NZ Streams and lakes. Prefers slow or still waters. It looks like nylon.
  16. Hi Nav I have some fish in CHCH that I need brought up. It would be good if you bring them. I am in Auckland at the moment and wont have internet connection until Wed Night. Let me know. Cheers Simon
  17. I am coming up to Auckland on Monday night and will be staying two nights. I will have no transport and am stuck in a Motel in Takapuna. Depending on what the company I am going up to deal with have planned, I may be keen to meet some of the locals up that way if anyone is interested. It would mean you would have to pick me up. I would be keen to see some fishrooms and setups to get my fishy fix while up there. PM me if you are keen to meet up and I will get your contact details. As I said above, Im not sure if my evenings have already been planned yet so can not confirm until I reach Auckland on Monday afternoon.
  18. Well done. I really like that tank
  19. It will not withstand the back pressure from either pressurized or DIY. Either the hose will burst or the valve will leak. They are not disigned for this amount of pressure. If using bottled co2 the a solonoid is more suited. HTH
  20. Got the camera finally today. Here are a few pics I took while playing with it. Im going to go outdoors with it this weekend, weather permitting, and see what it can do. Enjoy
  21. No Thats a different plant. The plant in that link is aponogeton distachyos http://www.google.co.nz/images?q=aponog ... CDUQsAQwAw The Swamp lily is Ottelia ovalifolia http://www.google.co.nz/images?q=Otteli ... CDAQsAQwAw They look similar in leaf sturcture, but the rest of the plant is very different.
  22. I spoke too soon. It has melted now with the Southerly.
  23. I have not tried to keep it in a tropical tank. Only in my pond. It survived for a while then died off and I have not managed to get it to grow back. May have to wait till next spring. The Speedwell is still growing fine outsind in my greenhouse. Has reproduced via seed lots. Will possibly try in a heated tank at some stage.
