With t8's how many watts per litre are neccesary?

They get really hot dont they, it has to go in a wooden hood so its probably better if the light doesnt get really hot...

Supposidly(sp) the prime really easily..

Thought I would start a thread on this new tank (there have been a few lately) The new tank will be a 450l 65''x22.5''x20'' heavily planted tank with 2 aqua one cf1200 filters, and 2 al 40-d lights (2x 48'' t8 per unit) The tank will also have its very own home made mdf stand. There are a couple of things which I have not decide on and wondered if anyone could help. 1. Co2? Diy or Pressurised? 2. Under gravel heating? I really like scalare's tanks (see http://www.fnzas.org.nz/fishroom/scalar ... t4866.html) and look to the above tank for insipation.

Try some of the online nz aquarium shops, I have seen them but cant remember which one.

Just been looking at heaters, are the Hydor (sp) heaters the only practicle inline heaters avalible. Also, where can you get them and are they alright?

Cant you get ceramic disc filter medium?

Currently have Elite 150w heater and am happy with it, the only thing is the temperature gauge on the unit is completely wrong. Whats the point of paying heaps for a Jagger when your supposed to replace heaters every year (or so Im told). Can you get heaters that can be put inline with a canister filter or are really unobtrusive in the tank? Ps. Thanks everyone for your input

lights I am looking at are 130mm high and so I really need at least a peice of 180mm for around the top.

I was looking at using archetraves but they do not come big enough to get the top looking like I want it to look, so I have decided to use a router with round bit to get the same shape.

Looks pretty good! Did you use a router to get the nice curved edges, or did you use standard architraves(sp).

That excel calculator doesn't take into accout bracing does it? So I am looking at a tank that is 3.8sf in 10mm glass and 1.495sf in 6mm glass. By adding bracing around the top, how does this effect that saftey factor.

Mabey, I guess a fire extinguisher is really just a cylinder with a valve on top, but would it be safe?
