Im not sure about the double dose of flourish excel, from reading this site some people have success and some end up with a tank of dead fish. My Lfs sold me something called aquarium science algae clear the bottle makes it sound potent enough, I will try it anyway but has anyone tried using this?

I was going to get a "s a e" but read that you need to have a huge tank even to keep one? Have I been mislead? Would the algae go away if I moved the fish to a new tank and re cycled my main tank?

Yes its the one with the magnet but no I clean the filter sponges in old tank water. I am pretty sure that it is black beard algae , its all over driftwood and plants, and looks really awful, even before the algae the filter got very dirty. The tank is across the room from the only window but it only gets lots of sun for about 3hrs in the morning, though even then its not directly on the tank.

The tank has been set up for about 8 months, I do a 20 percent water change twice a week. The water quality was quite alright before the algae, but I dont know about now. The filter is a fairly cheap one.

I have a 50 l tank with a shark adv filer with 210 cm3 of filter volume. Recently I have lost a betta and a albino catfish, the betta showed signs of a problem but the catfish died mysteriously I also have what I think is a severe case of blackbeard algae but even before that my filter is getting very sludgy in just a week. I did wonder if my filter wasnt up to the job and that I should upgrade. Any help would be appreciated.

Tank is 50l Tank mates are 3 albino catfish and 8 neons Neons are fine, good colour. Catfish are also good. currently hiding under a peice of driftwood

My Betta doesn't seem to be to good today. He seems to have a slight swelling around the mouth, I dont know if this is normal (cant find a good picture of one to see) but he also isnt eating as much as normal. Is this normal or should I be worried?

How many standard flourescent lights will I need for a 4 foot 18" deep tank

so as opposed to the 2215 (620lph) I should look at the 2217 (1000lph)

I am looking to filter a 250 litre and was going to go with a 2215 but was looking at the flow rates. Though the 2215 is rated for 350l the flow rate is low compared to the equivilently rated fluval. Are the eheim tank ratings reliable or should I go with 2217?

Naa its the whole street! Wouldent cleaning the filter (internal by the way) kill the benificial bacteria in the filter. What if i got a sponge filter on a battery air pump running a day before and removed the internal filter prior to power cut.

We are going to have the power out for 6 hours this week due to building work. What do I do (I have a 50l by the way) I was thinking of a battery aerator with some kind of sponge filter or diffuser but what about Temperature?

i like the 2215, it seems so simple that nothing could go wrong but is priming an issue and does it come with some kind of bags or something to stop the media mixing up when cleaning?

I'm considering making an mdf stand for a 250 litre tank but using the laminated board they make kitchens out of as a sort of facia on the sides, for the cupboards and for the whole hood. This should give a really good finish and be water proof for the hood.

I've had a 50 litre freshwater tank or a while now and am looking to upgrade to a 250 litre planted tank. I was thinking of using a eheim classic 2215 for filtration. Is a canister filter the right choice ? and is the 2215 suitable?
