be careful of putting more than one female into a holding tank as they will protect their young & possibly bash or injury the other females. i just strip them around the 17 day mark & put the fry into a small tank or into a net in the small tank if there are larger fry already in there.

to keep & breed trophs generally you need a large group of 10 or more IMO. At $100 each the group cost $1K so i think we know what it's like to part with serious coin for our fish. it can take up to 2 years for them to be at breeding age which some groups don't successfully supply fry. I have had my dubs for around 2 1/2 years without any fry yet & there are females in the group. i am in it for the fish & sometimes we are lucky enough to break even.

 you been under some stress or something lately? & yeah, i am totally in it for the $ that's why my fry are always cheap  buy a couple of colonies of trophs from your lfs & see what that costs, might be about the same as one of those green arrow things that grow to 6 foot long or something.

it can be a tough choice when you know they aren't going to return any $ at all. :-?
  13. what fish & what size are they? if i were colecting fish & driving them home i use a chillybin. half fill it & you may want to tap the lid shut to stop water spilling out if your driving is crazy use it like a tank & the chilly bin will help keep the temp up. the stirring of the surface will keep the oxygen levels up so should be sweet
  14. i would do this: get a large chilly bin &/or a few smaller ones to put your fish in, i have just moved & used my 100L chilly bin & a 30L one to transport all my fish. if it doesn't take too long oxygen wont be an issue as long as the fish have enough water but add an airstone if you can. you don't need to save too much water, just think of it as a large water change. empty the tank cleaning out the old substrate & replace with new substrate. make sure it is well washed as this will save time in making your tank clean & looking good again. i would 1/4 fill the tank with a hose (how big is this tank?) then add some hot water from the tap to bring the temp up somewhere near where it should be, get the filter going if you can with a low water level then add the fish & tip the original water back in. once the temp is near normal fill the remaining space. i have done this in the past week & it worked well & all stock survived the move.
  15. all is still fine, no dramas at all & the moliros are growing really fast & are showing very nice red in the fins.
  16. i haven't had any problems keeping anything i have or did have
  17. you would probably have to produce ID & your details would be noted for future raids on ellicit activities
  18. i don't think even target would not take this seriously
  19. did we ever get that popcorn emoticon???? i don't think so, the cops can't control a minority & they have sticks & guns. it would also create all sorts of other issues to get more legislation in our hobby which this will create if someone in the wrong place takes it seriously, look at the recent fish couriering situation for example. it sucks that people put goldfish in bowls but your not going to stop people doing it. education is the only realistic approach to it, maybe a flyer to all people that buy fish referring them to a fish forum would be useful.
  20. i think that it is a battle like speeding drivers, it will always happen & you can't have a cop on all parts of all roads
  21. i would look for australian sites as the NZ ones don't appear to give a good range. i have used the aussie ones for golf equipment with great success.
