  1. morning can strike at any time! yes it does, if the glass is thick enough & therefore strong enough it doesn't need bracing. In saying that i do not know what thickness will be enough to not have bracing & it will also depend on the height of the panel as well.
  2. i used to use the digital ones but as teh battery wears down they become less accurate, i now you the glass ones & put one in each end of the tank as a check measure.
  3. i would expect my cat to be dealt with if it was a tom bashing others cats etc which is why i don't have a tom cat. a roaming neutered male cat isn't an issue, a roaming tom is.
  4. domestic cats don't always have collars as the spot on flea treatments are very good & they can also hang themselves.
  5. nice work, great skills. As for catching the fish, it's easy when there is alot less water in there so draining most of the water will make it easier.
  6. there are more around now & some of the breeders are willing to pass on at cheaper prices to get them out for the good of the hobby so they are becoming more available. 8)
  7. your lucky they have used the bath! i would suggest that it's more likely the tom is possibly asleep somewhere rather than moved on, they will dominate an area then stick around as they are now boss. my parents got a trap from the council for a cat that was coming inside their place & attacking their cat. Dad trapped it & gave it a good wash with the hose & it never came back but that was coming inside the house.
  8. i went through the same thing a couple of years ago, after a while it got so bad that my cats wouldn't go outside & started poohing & peeing inside. this is when i got a mates paintball gun which worked very well & he never came back. there was plenty of people on here that weren't happy with that but hey it worked & the cat wasn't killed, it belonged to a neighbour. the air rifle will work easily, i use mine weekly to kill possums but you do need to be a good shot as there is nothing worse than wounding something & not killing it.
  9. i think it depends on who wants it & how much they have to spend. i am picking around the $650 mark if HFF are lucky.
  10. it's not an issue, with the CF canisters anyway as they just swim around in the "tank" in the bottom.
  11. your right & i am sorry, back to the sensible discussion
  12. what was said virgin chicken's name? Mary??

    Cycle of live"

i haven't & don't know but the malawi people eat the africans we keep, to them they are food & to us they are pets.
  14. i used to get african fry regularly in the canisters, some would have been in there for as long as 4 weeks i suspect as they were discovered at a muuch larger size than could fit through the "strainer" on teh end of the inlet pipe. as long as the filter is sucking enough food in to feed them they will be fine & there is no chance of the adults eating them. so it's not a bad "grow out tank"
  15. or have matured enough to getting treading, lay their own eggs, go cluckie & incubate & fresh generation of battery hen supermarket supernatural superchickens that don't require the male as part of the natural regeneration process. i wonder if the Emission Trading Scheme will effect the price of these eggs on the shelf to the average consumer in 93% of the nations stores & wether the GST will be removed from such a natural & healthy food. either that or will we ever get an answer on the original claim or will it fall foul leave a bad smell in the nose of all involved.
  16. that car must have 10 black boxes inside to connect to all those aerials.
  17. nothing dodgy http://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/artic ... d=10657370
  18. wasn't moko a pain in some way, like harrassing swimmers or something?
  19. personally i think it points out the dangers of messing with the natural balance of the tank. I prefer not to add anything to the tank as adding something to the water has the potential to be disastrous. i have never added any chemicals apart from de-chlorinating solution when i was on town water & i have never had any issues that i can think of & the very few fish i have lost have been my mistake solely but leaving off the air pump or something similar.
  20. i would make one with more boxes, just get a plastic pipe & drill holes to create a spraybar
  21. maybe we should have a nursery section
  22. its a trickle filter, they work fine as long as you get enough media in them & make sure the flow is good at all times. this particular model has 2800lph but only one "filter box" which doesn't seem right to me, on one of my tanks it has a 900lph pump & 4 boxes that size so i don't think it's a smart design.
  23. do you need a permit to keep beardies & blue tounges etc?
