  1. great thanks afrikan & ryan, will keep an eye on it. Also, you two think the giraffe in the pic is a good looking giraffe or not? I don't mind what your opinion is, i've never seen any others in real life so don't know if ive got good or rubbish.
  2. I'll give the temp & airation a go for a day or so? Temp up to between 28-30?
  3. they seem to be randomely all over its body
  4. Hi all, I purchased two giraffe cichlids on friday. I have noticed one has quite a few very small white spots about the size of a pin point. they almost looks like the small oxygen bubbles that float in the water. Can anyone shed any light on this matter as i have never had white spot on any fish before so i don't really know what it is. Dont think they are visable on the pic but i'll post it anyway.
  5. I have found that two heaters, one at each end in a tank that size heat more evenly. i have two 150 watt heaters in my 1000mm tank. i would consider putting two 200 watt units in there.

    I Think.

this site is great. that is down to everyone involved, especially the mods & admin.
  7. ive been watching them over the past hour or so & if anything, the red zebs are the ones being aggressive. the giraffes tried to get into their hut & its been a game of tag ever since
  8. Hi all, anyone had major problems with giraffe's being aggressive? they are noted as aggressive on the cichlid forums profile of them. I did not realise this before i bought them home. I have added two giraffes to my fryeri, cobolt blues, red zebras & e yellows.
  9. i have found it better to have as much filtration as possible, both of my tanks have a filtration rate of 10 times the tank volume per hour.
  10. my clowns take the food from my angels & yes do lye on their sides. the first time i saw them do it i thought they were dead.
  11. Did you supply these to Richard up here?
  12. Hi all, my LFS has a pair of what they call Baenschi Peacocks. Would i assume that these are Aulonocara Hasbaenschi (Red Shoulders) or could they be something else similar? I have asked for the latin name but they don't know what it is. Anyone else seen these on the current lists? Any info would be appreciated.
  13. i did this when i set up a new tank, all was well.
  14. i would do a big water change & let things settle for a day. then if not cleared after two days, panic!
  15. i had an AR620 & still have a sunsun 1000mm tank. I prefer the sunsun over the aqua one cause the hood & cabinet looks alot better, sunsun hood parts are made of aluminium which will last alot longer than the plastic hood parts of the aqua one item especially when my cat always sleeps on it. the sunsun hood filter has four separate filter boxes instead of one which seems to do a better job. at the end of the day, a tank is something that hold water. so if neither leak then they are equal. the hood filter is only a water pump, some piping & some media boxes that the water flows through. again if they both pump & filtrate then they must be equal on some level. i prefer the look & feel of the parts of the sunsun so I kept it (& it is much bigger). I am about to get another larger tank & will be looking for a sunsun over a aqua one as i have had nothing but good experiences with them. i understand that the earlier series of sunsuns were very average quality but the one i bought a year ago is excellent. the lighting is sealed to keep moisture out to.
  16. neither, the ones that i have currently dont go anywhere near my teenage angels
  17. here's a link for an auction for a Sunsun unit. http://www.trademe.co.nz/Home-living/Pe ... 23.htm?p=1 this one is the same size as the aqua one but much taller. I bought a 1000mm Sunsun unit & it has rounded front corners, an filtration system & lights in the hood etc. Its was $439 including cabinet. I also added a CF1000 canister filter which made the water alot better.
  18. sounds about normal price to me. You can by that filter for $129 from pet planet, heater for about $25 off trademe. Not to sure of the tank price but there are usually new tank & stands on trademe for around $430 that are 1000mm long (assuming the 80 refers to a length of 80cm).
  19. flourish excell will have most of it gone in 3 days with one dose.
  20. i would recommend the pairs not being able to see each other, they get very firey when spawning.
  21. heres a link to the cichlid forum for these, it notes them as peaceful. http://www.cichlid-forum.com/profiles/s ... php?id=196
  22. use budget bleach, it has less additional chemicals then the more $ bleaches & rinse well. & if it does come back use flourish excell to get rid of it, will be gone in a few days & mine never returned.
  23. my community tank is around 200L. i have a 150watt heater at each end of the tank, on a 45' angle & at the bottom. with the flow of my tank the two heaters heat more evenly than one heater.
  24. i just slightly overfeed my community tank, the clowns will clean up what ever is left on the bottom after they have finished chasing the food around the tank.
  25. i have done that, started a trial tank & am now completely hooked on africans. I am in the process of getting together all the equipment for my new 4 footer. I currently have 5 fryeri, 3 e yellows, 2 red zebras & 2 cobalt zebras. they are all about two inches long & they are in a two footer 24Lx20Hx12D. they have enough room for now. the only setup difference between my african & community tank is crushed marble as a substrate to raise the ph a bit. my ph is around 7.8 & they do well. I do recommend a high filtration rate, I have a cf1000 on my +-100L african tank.
