  1. Am i wrong in thinking these Ps. Zebras are incorrectly named, shouldnt it say metriaclima zebra ....? how are newbies like me supposed to understand what things are if the "experts" (suppliers that i would've thought they know what they are selling) are labelling them incorrectly?
  2. i just ask for it at the shop
  3. Hi all, i got a copy of what africans are currently available from suppliers. Due to my lack of experience I am having trouble finding the fish on the cichlid forum species register, can you please give me the latin name to these common names? I would like to see a pic so i can decide whether to get any. Noted as: Ps. Zebra - Orange (is this Metriaclima estherae?) Ps. Zebra - Marble, albino, & ice blue. Ps. Demansoni & tropheous. Peacock Marble Peacock Tangerine tropheus Moorii Firefox (new) tropheus Moorii double star (new)
  4. hi & welcome. nice to see another african keeper in northland.
  5. i wouldn't have thought that it would affected them at all. i do 50% water changes on my community & african tanks & the temp drops to around 20 deg with no problems.
  6. maybe those eggs only got half the cake mix a?
  7. or at the LFS they have the magnetic velcro scrubbers. they work very well once you get on top of it.
  8. is this what you have? http://www.cichlid-forum.com/profiles/s ... hp?id=1319
  9. not sure about the rainbow part but heres all the melanochromis on the cichlid forum species register http://www.cichlid-forum.com/profiles/r ... ?genus=122

  11. i have heard of doble dosing killing the fish. I did standard dose after a water change 7 on the second day the algae turned red, third day it turned white & started to break down

    fish pics

    very impressive!
  14. no problems there, i have my clowns from my community now in with my africans. they all get along really well.
  15. things are only worth what people will pay for them. if there are only 5 interested buyers & the highest bidder will only pay $40 each then the market is telling you what they are really worth. maybe the shops can get away with charging huge prices because they wait for someone who is willing to pay big $ for em, you will have to do the same to get high prices.
  16. their activity, they are so active all of the time. its driving me nuts at the moment cause everytime i ask my 6 year old son to do anything that requires walking past the tank he instantely forgets whats he's supposed to do & starts gazing at the fish. their vibrant colours, yellows, blues, peacocks etc i think are, only just surpassed by marines.
  17. my mistake which i humbly apoligise for  which it doesn't, my coloured male is the same shape with darker colours & no spots at all. my juvie has one spot or short stripe so no one needs to be afraid of buying fryeri from a member with the username starting with S!
  18. I do respect the importance myself of not spreading hybrids around, it doesnt worry me in the slightest if hybrids were bred in my tank but i certainly would never sell or give away. i might keep them if they looked good but would destroy them if i broke down my tanks. as long as i have control of them.
  19. As i said below i couldn't remember exactely if my coloured fryeri had spots but it think he did. he definately did, one "spot" just in front of his tail exacetly like the juvie i have to (I may have suggested that he had more than one previously). i have just looked on the cichlid forum species register & have found a fryeri that also has a "spot" just in front of his tail as below link. this may not be a spot, more a short stripe in these cases. see photo #6 http://www.cichlid-forum.com/profiles/s ... hp?id=1328 i will post a pic when photobucket comes back on line.
  20. i have africans together as listed on my sig below & they give a good colour contrast. however i don't reccomend adding the giraffes as i have done as i got a really nasty one.
  21. my mature ones dont have the spots any more just a juvie.
  22. to be honest, i wouldn't care if they were crossed. they look great & i cant tell the difference between my fryeri & the ones in the species register on the cichlid forum. if something walks like a duck, sounds like a duck & looks like a duck. It must be a duck. What litho are you all refering to? Lithochromis?
