  1. that fish has the fryeri stripes & the utaka spots. i have just been & had a look & one of my 5 fryeri also has some spots similar to that. I cannot remeber exactely but i think my larger fully coloured fryeri had spots before he became fully coloured.
  2. are you guys refering to a Blue Caeruleus? if so there are a couple of differences between that fish & a Blue Caeruleus. it doesnt have any black on its dorsal fin & the mouth looks like the wrong shape. To me, it looks like a fryeri shape with cobalt blue colouring. http://www.cichlid-forum.com/profiles/s ... hp?id=1667
  3. johannes has alot on trademe at the mo & i have a giraffe up for deals that is colouring up nicely.
  4. how many litres is your tank? Kribs get alot bigger than BN's?
  5. i had two largish clowns in a community tank for over a year & had no problems at all. I have seen in HFF albany, "XL clowns" which were about two inches for $35 each. i thought that was a bit steep!
  6. i have a cf1200 & cf1000 on a 200L tank, that makes the water soo clear the tank looks empty with flying fish. i clean mine about every five weeks now.
  7. i have swaped the giraffes, sick one into main tank & agressive one into 35L jail cell (notice how when the bad fish went into the 35L, the tank went from apartment to jail cell  ). will be finding another home for nasty giraffe! Anyone need a lovely male giraffe to compliment their tank?
  8. i just witnessed my red zebra male (who hasn't chased anyone that i've ever noticed) sneak up on the aggresive giraffe & give him a good smack on the side. this is almosy worthy of a script on shortland st
  9. not sure, guess it has the chace of making it better or worse
  10. hi all, as some may already know I am having trouble with a giraffe that I suspect has had beating from the other giraffe. i have moved the injured giraffe into a small tank by itself. the dominent giraffe is still in my main tank with the other africans. am i too optimistic having these giraffes with the other africans? (see sig for types) should i remove it before it does more damage to others (it now chaeses others as it no longer has a giraffe to chase)? when or if the injured giraffe gets better i guess i cannot realisticly re-introduce as it will get another beating. at the moment it looks like 3-nil to getting rid of them, what do you think?

this fish has now lost most of its fins, is swimming still but doesnt really move away from one spot & seems to be a bit worse today. should i now be put in the freezer for a sleep?

nothing! Don't tell any hairy legged feminists though!
  13. i have found external canisters to be the best. i have also found them easier to clean as all you do is turn the piping taps off & remove the canister. pop the top & everyrhing is right there in front of you. they also do alot more filtration IMO.

    New Tank

looks good. did you cahnge tanks just to get a larger unit or did you have problems with the sunsun?
  17. i would try to borrow some clown loaches for a week or two. in my community tank i had a snail infestation in my canister only, when i emptied the snails from the canister into the tank i did not see any snails 30 mins after entering. also the loud "crack" of the loaches crushing them is interesting to listen to.

i think thats very cool, mimicing the natural enviroment to that extent.

    Sick Giraffe

One of my giraffes is sick. this is the one that had white spot, it also has been harassed bythe other giraffe. its fins are tatty, hasn't moved much over the last 24 hours, isn't eating & is very weak. it isnt quite clear on the pic but it has pale patches where its dark blotches are. i don't hold much hope for it surviving but anyone know what i could be & can it affect the others?
  25. I accept your thinking but the giraffe had it in the two footer, not this main tank & no water or anything else except a plastic plant from the two footer went into the main tank (except the fish of corse). the white spot was introduced from the pet shop as their heater had failed & tank temp was 14 deg for a few days. it was at least 3 weeks before the loaches got it & i think it was different conditions that may have caused it.
