  1. thinking about your idea to put the barrels in the ground...... what is your ground temp? over winter it was around 13 deg here which was warmer than normal, not sure what it is at the moment. Putting barrels in the ground i don't think will have much effect but if you ran several metres of pipe lines under the ground, maybe 15-20mm pipe that would be more likely to effect the water temp than a large body of water like a barrel. Kinda like the opposite of have the pipe on your roof to heat it up. If you make sure the pipes are long enough & deep enough to cool the water below your desired tank temp then have a heater to raise it a little if required.
  2. i have had three aqua one CF's for around 5 years and i have had a great run out of them. For the money they are the best option i think, if you want to spend several hundred more then go for eheim or fluval but i don't think you'll be much better off if at all. I have heard of several people also having good experiences with the sunsun canisters to, i have not had sunsun canisters but other sunsun products i have had have been excellent.
  3. i don't think it will make a noticable difference. When i designed kitchens starfire/low iron glass didn't make much of a difference when the back was painted for hob splashbacks but the cost difference was quite high so we had samples of float and starfire with painted backs. Most people went for the float glass.
  4. that will be a traydek style system, they lay the tray down, put steel reinforcing and pour concrete over it.
  5. if it's block the floor will likely be precast concrete or a traydek type system so all good.
  6. awesome! looks great, who made it?
  7. there are other considerations to take into account to like load bearing walls, point loads & loaded dimensions so it's not always as straight forward as that. Would you think twice about putting a water bed up there?
  8. stomp on the floor or lift the carpet, that will tell you what it is. An engineer will be able to tell you if it is suitable or not. timber floor joist sizes are calculated based on a kn rating of loading to NZS 3604 minimums, if your tank is less than it has been specified then it will be fine.
  9. as far as i'm aware no races apart from bathurst and ITM400 are broadcast live here. The closest we get is qualifying & saturday racing on sunday afternoon with the sunday afternoon race broadcast late sunday night but most are broadcast the following weekend.
  10. the malawians don't eat while they have fry in their mouth so will spit them to feed so in your case i believe it's a good thing. Tanganyikan species will eat while holding. from the info you've provided It sounds like normal behaviour to me but i would strip them or catch them when she spits and let them grow up in a net. i expect that when you attempt to catch them is she may suck them back in so stripping may be the only way. It is quite easy although doing it on a dem first up may be a little challenging due to their size, here's a vid that shows it clearly. I always stripped my malawians so they don't loose too much condition. http://www.cichlid-forum.com/videos/stripping.php removing her from the colony could cause an issue when you reintroduce her. You have removed her from the pecking order, the females have a pecking order just like the males so when she goes back into the main area there could be problems. I think you just need to wait that out as they simply need to sort it out again and that may mean she or other females get injured. I found it best not to remove the females for any length of time, catch them when you want to strip and then return them straight back after removes a lot of dominance drama.
  11. It's still as shown in the pics
  12. being from the wild, would they be harder to keep alive compared to 100th generation tank fish?
  13. as long as the leak is fixed it doesn't matter who does it or how it's done as long as it does not break any other rules.

    new tang tank

Fair enough. I think it looks good in the picture but also not bad in person with the moisture there. Gives the back ground depth

    new tang tank

you sure you got enough filtration? could have 100 fish with that sort of pumping looks good as always, feed heaps so they grow fast.
  19. keep an eye on it when you reintroduce it, it has been getting a hiding for a reason and it may well kick off again when it goes back into the tank.
  20. it'll be sweet. seems a bit steep to me, i don't think it will be a lot more for a new one from greg kingston, TM user "Tanks2u".
