  1. are you refering to the fish pictured in the first post? what size are they?
  2. What about your substrate? There must be a good amount of bacteria in that.
  3. I have both let them spit and strip and I always get more if I strip but its up to you how you keep and treat your fish
  4. if your going to add a CF get a CF1200, they are little more than a cf1000 and do a better job. http://www.trademe.co.nz/pets-animals/f ... 178725.htm It's much larger than sand, like fine gravel more than sand. I got it through my LFS, it is also called aragonite i think. Not cheap but the best substrate i think. i use a magnetic glass cleaner, too easy. http://www.trademe.co.nz/pets-animals/f ... 990592.htm
  5. for african filtration i recommend having 6 times the tank volume so if its 400l that would make 1600lph, i have found that to be plenty even when over feeding. the tank at the moment looks quite dark to me, i would lighten the background to a pale blue or navy blue perhaps and have a white substrate. I have crushed white marble as a substrate with a navy blue background and it shows up the duboisi and black pemba very well. I also have leleupi which are bright orange, they add a great colour dimension to the tank. i would also add more rock work at either end, the tank looks tall from the pic so would be trying to make the tank appear longer. i have tried plant and sunlight bulbs on either half of my tank at the same time, the sunlight ones made the tank look far better.
  6. What the idea is to create territories for the males to claim. In my 2.0m tank I have three separate rock piles, what that does is spread the males apart and reduces the fighting. It also allows them time to force the females into breeding rather than constantly having to dominate his territory. I initially had rocks every where and it simply didn't work very well, once I separated the piles it became a much calmer tank and I regularly have multiple females holding.
  7. awesome sized tank for trophs, you'll love it. let me know when it's set up and i'll let you know how to create territories and make it work well for the fish

    hey guys

    Hi and welcome
  9. recently at my local golf club they replaced the seal for the beer chiller door, it was mostly sealing but not totally. The difference after the seal was changed was the chiller almost instantly dropped by 6 degrees Celsius and the running costs have dropped significantly due to a combination of retaining the desired temp and being able to reduce the energy required to maintain it. All from just the door seal so it must be worth blocking all gaps.
  10. there may only be a small gap due to the way the sectional doors move but going to all that effort of insulating etc you may as well block all gaps.
  11. i didn't either. i had a drought and couldn't work out where it was coming from but eventually found it was coming from there, made a big difference blocking it up and the rest of my garage is not insulated.
  12. the gap i mean is across the top of the door when it's closed, you can't see it unless your up a ladder or something. With a roller door it can be quite large, I'm not sure how big the gap is for the sectional doors. I put a blanket on it to cover the gap on mine, only thing is when you want to open the door you have to get it down.
  13. what are your plans for insulating the garage door? is there a gap at the top of the sectional door like the roller doors have?
  14. If you can't find them locally kensfish.com has a lot of sera products. When I order fish food it usually only takes seven to ten days to arrive.
  15. They are bad quality our hybrids and I would feed them to my cat
  16. Use Post Haste. They are owned by New Zealand Couriers and if there is not a Post Haste where you are sending the package they pas it on to NZC.
  17. nice start, well done.
  18. if the face of the disc isn't smooth it will make them work more efficiently if they are machined. If you have no problems with the way it brakes now i would just change pads and leave it at that but don't get the cheapest pads you can find, get something like a "C Plus" brand or better which can usually be bought at around $45 retail. one of these spreaders makes the job so easy and for only $15 it's really worth it. http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/car-par ... 467340.htm what is the car? you could likely by new rotors for less than what they want to machine the existing ones.
  19. for my 2.0m tank i use two 3 foot light hoods, they aren't quite the same length as the tank but they are close enough to light it evenly and i think it will be the same if it was another 100mm longer.
