  1. is the heater on an angle or straight up & down? Up & down may cause the thermostat to switch it off as the water around the heater will be warm but rest of tank cold if there is not enough flow.
  2. i have a via aqua 650 pro & its identical to the cf1000 i also have. i even swapped over the taps. from what i understand the via aqua was rebranded as aqua one. Is that correct?
  3. I am thinking about combinations for the new 6 footer. I have recently got tropheus duboisi & am thinking of having 12 of them as a starter for the tank. Has anyone mixed other species like demansoni (12 of) with tropheus? Who has what experience to tell me whether this is a good or bad idea?
  4. i bought my CF1200 for $149 & CF1000 for $129 new from pet planet. they are great, i have 3 in total & have had them for over 2 years without any dramas.
  5. this is now a political discussion. is this allowed within our forum rules?
  6. yeah he won, Edit Billaney , please you know better that that !
  7. i thought i had all males until one spawned 8) from what you are saying you may have seen a coloured female but not realised
  8. it may be holding, if you cannot see a "chin" it may only have a few eggs that isn't enough for it to increasethe size of its mouth. When holding they suck water through the mouth to keep circulating the eggs which creates the swallowing look.
  9. Who has what with tropheus in their tank if anything? I have Tropheus duboisi juvies & am thinking of how to have them setup when adults. Are these best as species only setups or will they do well with a few tank mates?
  10. Another succesful season for canterbury rugby & another bridesmaid prize for wellington. I cannot believe how good canterbury NPC & super 14 has been for the last decade, outstanding!
  11. Can anyone give me any info regarding these? http://www.trademe.co.nz/Home-living/Pe ... 512560.htm
  12. you'll mix anything a? i bet you'd chuck a croc in there if you could get your hands on one
  13. that wouldn't stop the flow, would just enter & exit the wrong pipes.
  14. all i do to prime them is blow thru the spraybar end until air comes out the pick up pipe then suck until water starts coming up the spraybar pipe. reconnect the spraybar pipe to the spray bar & away it goes.
  15. im not sure but imagaine canada would have similar "MAF" laws to ours so they may not have open slather on what comes in.
  16. tropheus Moori Golden Kazumbas' spawning.
  17. Yanks are so lucky, it seems they get all types of cichlids from the lake & from what i have read on the cichlid forum don't often bother with mere Tropheus Duboisi but all manner of wild caught beauties as below.

    Plywood tank

i don't believe it will as it will only be a strong as the fixings at either end of the bracing. the weak point will be at the corners especially, i would use aluminium angle for holding the corner together but it won't be to pretty & will end up costing similar to a glass tank & add heaps of time to complete it. I would personally only make a plywood tank if it was 2 or 3 times that size & it had a steel frame to fix to. give it a go but i dont think it would last more than 12 months.

    Plywood tank

take it from a cabinet maker. it will bow & that will create point loads & that will make it pull itself apart. its not rigid enough in the centre of the panels, glass is very rigid & still bows. to make it you will need to make the plywood box & fibreglass the inside to seal it, when it bows the fibreglass will crack & begin to leak.

    Plywood tank

glass will be alot stronger in the way of bowing in every direction than plywood. i expect the joins of the ends, where the plywood is glued & screwed together will pull away very quickly because of the bowing. the plywood tanks i have seen were all fitted in between steel frames which were the tank, the plywood was simply the infilled walls for fibreglassing onto.
  23. i went to los angeles to play in a hockey tournament & one of the teams playing had an iguana like the green one as its mascot, it was on a harness that looked like it was for a toddler. It was about 6 foot long including its tail. Freaky to see for a teenager from Northland

    eaten demi

i have had a girafe & cobalt blue loose their tales (at different times) due to being beaten & harrassed. The worst was the giraffe which lost all its fins & literally was getting moved around the tank by the water current. Both fish grew them back & are healthy like nothing happened. I put them in a small tank alone & after about a week they were alot better. i feed very minimally & added a little epsom salt to the water.
