  1. here is another thing to think about, batteries are made of lead plates & acid creating electricity with the raction of the two. who here has a tank that is creating electricity?

    MOVING

& that most likely had nothing to do with the moving.
  3. i haven't got one but have a sunsun tank & would not think twice about buying it. i also have an aquaone tank & the sunsun is a much superior design & build quality. they have space in the hood for external filters even when they come with a built in hood flter so i run both filters together. there is no gap for this on the aquaone hood. i have had both brands of tank for around 3 years & the aquaone unit looks terrible & the sunsun looks like new.
  4. nah he was fiction but splashdown company is real. the entire cast were friends or family of the two brothers. their dad is actually their dad & Kenny's son is his nephew. if you can watch the "making of" dvd it will make you appreciate what they achieved with such a small budget.
  5. ah my favourite movie at the moment. I got the 3 disc set, i reckon the making of the movie is as good as the movie itself.

  7. yeah, everyone has their views & i don't think anyone is qualified to determine whether each of our views is the right way or not, its just how we each see things. I don't hate hybrids, soem are beautiful i just think they are not good on the open market.
  8. fish are very smart, my africans rush to the top when i am carrying a yeelow food container but hide when i get a net.
  9. i got bored half way through the q's & a's on the auction & gave up reading it all but i do have one question in the general topic of hybrids. I don't agree with keeping hybrids at all & do cull any "odd" looking fry that i get but i am curious about what point is a hybrid acceptable if at all?
  10. the time will come when you will have more fry than you can get rid of so you don't need to be worried about loosing any or culling anything that isn't perfect in your first few batches.
  11. i ahve cobalts, e yellows, peacocks, red zebs in trios of 1M/2F & haven't had any major aggression isuues. the males all chase others when they want to breed but once the deed is done its all mallow again. no one ever gets alot of damage.
  12. she may not have, sometimes they hold the eggs further down their throat if they are not totally full which makes them look like they have nothing in their mouth. i have also seen holding females taking small amounts of food into their mouth while holding so it may not be over yet. if she has eaten them it may not be long before spawning again.
  13. after 17 days from breeding i strip them as described in that thread. it has worked from the first time i tried. by the way, is your signature how you want it spelt? "Love Malavi, Still Learnig"
  14. if your tank will be 600kg get 6 large people to stand where it will be placed & im sure you will find it will be fine. if you are further concerned get them to jump up & down to test it. if it fails you may make the news
  15. i have found that my tanks increased my power bill by bout $10 per tank per month so i'm not concerned about it. as heat rises, I have found that sealing the lids creates a generally warmer tank so sealing that & tuning down the heater should reduce energy used for heating. i also usually have the lights on during the day but if you weren't home you could leave the lights off which would also reduce costs.
  16. my cf1200 has the spraybar at the top of the back of the tank & sprays into the back wall as the cf1200 creates alot of current. you can angle it slightly upward to create a "wave" on the surface to airate the water also so you don't need an air stone. the outlet or suction hose i have sucking from the bottom at one end. the cf1000 don't create as much current so are a little more versatile on how you can point the spraybar.
  17. it wont cost much more to do that with a 304 ci injected v8 & then it will be worth alot more if you want to sell it. a mate in my hot rod club put an old 308 into a early navara which was alot of fun to drive. it steered like a forklift, with the rear wheel as they spun he sold it to some young guy a couple of years ago. i saw it at the kumeu hot rod show last year & it had persoanlised plates "WOK ROD" which i thought was very clever.
  18. no one mention the crocodile that snookie has as the authorities will take it away.
  19. there are a few herbs that they don't like & tend to stay away from them, inparticular lavender. lavender grows well in most areas & should help alot.

    Can I have

just get two. if you end up with a male & female they will breed but when i had mine i didn't get any fry from them as they kept eating their own eggs. If you do end up with fry just leave them in the tank & what do grow up you could sell either on here, TM or back to your LFS. you don't have to go through all the tasks of raising fry if you don't want them.
  21. i think we need to understand the meaning of the word classic, in definition "of recognised high quality; typical; simple in style." source oxford dictionary. I think it is a classic if the above definitions apply to a vehicle whether i like them or not which i think maybe the real subject of this thread for me i do appreciate some of the shown pics of jappers but my feet are firimly in the "old school" holden & chev camps. I currently own an old SS & have owned a few old v8 holdens & even a couple of old jappers.
  22. i don't have plants in my grow out tanks, only have aragonite as a substrate to buffer the ph.
  23. as long as there isn't any left over food it doesn't matter how often you feed as long as the fish are getting the correct amount of food in a day. i guess you are feeding very small flake type food? this may be the issue as the smallest parts of the food probably are not getting eaten hence the nutrient/algae problem. things will get better when you move onto larger food i suspect, just keep cleaning or get an algae eater. i have africans & my grow out tanks are covered in green algae, i purposely put them near the window for sunlight to create algae. the africans eat it as part of their diet so i don't have any issues with them growing quickly.
  24. do it as ryan described but i have found success with pumping the gills closed while stripping which makes them come out quickly. i use a tooth pick with the sharp end broken off, hold the fish in your hand with its head between your thumb & index finger & tail toward your wrist. open her mouth with tooth pick in the other hand then gently but quickly squeeze the gills closed & repeat the squeezing until empty. some fish are better than others to strip, my yellow females are so easy, the last time i got about 45 fry from 6 squeezes. my red zeb female fights for every fry so she is much harder to strip & the baenschi freaks out the moment you put her in a net & spits em stright away. only problem with that is you have to net her almost straight away or she will spit in whatever tank she is in.
  25. i just got this info of these from some patent website An aquarium water purification system comprises a porous or slotted platform raised from the bottom of the aquarium. A low density foam member having land areas and openings therein is affixed to the bottom of the platform. The foam member promotes bacterial retention and growth thereon of waste metabolizing bacteria. Means are also provided to circulate the water from the aquarium through the foam member and through an external filter. to me this kinda sounds like a low rate filter with a sponge for bacteria to grow in. am i correct or is it too late & maybe i should be asleep. i wouldn't bother as what ever filter you are running is probably doing a much better job of housing bacteria. i dont think it will affect your plants at all & as for the brown algae, nutrients in the water create algae to grow. alot of light will make the algae green & not enough light will cause it to be brown. what fish in what tank do you have & how much are you feeding? maybe reducing feeding amounts & feed 6 days out of 7 will reduce algae.
