  1. so when you get rid of the alpha male the "b" males remain "b" & don't step up to become alpha? i have not had frontosas but every alpha male i have passed on has been quickly replaced by the next in line.
  2. the 620T models seem to be a worry.
  3. i would get a few & thin them out when they are bigger that way you can choose which ones to keep.
  4. yeah but who knows what species.
  5. so hw many 620T models would the shop have sold?
  6. paying it forward is a great thing, i do it all the time whether i am starting it or paying it forward it feels great!
  7. thats is wierd, luck of the draw then a?
  8. you wouldn't hear about them breaking f you hadn't sold many. does the store you work in sell many of them?
  9. that tank is quite tall so something along the lines of angels, gaurami or your original idea of discus would work as they will fill the "space at the top" you will have if you don't get them. then you could add the middle & bottom dwellers to complete the equation. I had 4 angels in a 1000mm tank & when they became adults it was no where near big enough as they faught so much. they were fine until it came time to breed so you can have a few until then & there isn't usually any probems selling adult angels if thats the way you go.
  10. it looks like if we started a thread titled "Who has a 620T that has not failed?" there would be very few replies
  11. has more than one tank broken in one place? Is the floor level?
  12. it would be a pretty big aquarium to feed even this small country a guy i know up here had a 50cm pacu that went to a research facilty somewhere between whangarei & auckland where they have dams of fish growing to see how long it takes to grow how big etc. I don't know what the outcome was or any more than that. next time i see him i'll find out more.
  13. there is currently research being done about breeding & growth rates of them to see whether they could be a viable food source for us.
  14. thats 2.4m which is nearly 5 times the length of the fish. just add a "No U Turn" sign & you'll be sweet
  15. add some contrasting coloured fish & fit a black background. I would add electric yellows, red zebras & peacocks or red empress (something with a varying colour) which should give a few things to distract your eye.
  16. i have looked at both suggestions & i think its the Large Brown Vagrant spider (Uliodon species). i based my pick on the shape of the legs, abdomen & thorax. The D aquaticus looks to have much thicker legs & larger abdomen.
  17. you are allowed to shot lead if it is not over the water so how does that apply to your comment? Also i cannot believe that the steel that you have to shoot over water would be any better for the ducks if it is eaten, what do you think?
  18. hi from Whangarei also. I also started with a small one for the kiddies, its addictive alright!
  19. there is this (your) thread this one viewtopic.php?f=28&t=37778 & viewtopic.php?f=5&t=37770 & mine has a repaired base also.
  20. to cut perspex on a table saw you need a blade that has teeth like paddles, alot like a blade that is used to cut melteca board. if you cut it with a wood cutting blade you will end up with a jagged or furry edge. jigsaw is best option if you want to do it yourself but it will be best for you if you take a cardboard template to a glazier & get them to do it.
  21. i'm sure i have just read 3 different threads in the last 15 minutes that state broken AR620T tanks. i also have one that has a new piece covering a crack in the base panel.
  22. phone a glazier, they often do perspex & definately ask for offcuts as i think the 10mm sheet 2.4x1.2 is around $800. i have a Ar620T as a grow out tank & it has had a glass panel covering a crack in the base. the crack is toward the back & the covering piece is only covering about half the base.
  23. they have banned lead shot being shot over water. if enough (maybe billions of) sinkers were being lost in the water i'm sure they would ban them to.
