  1. i don't know how to sex them but i don't believe that there has ever been any in the world that have breed in an aquarium without being injected with hormones so it may not make any difference what sex they are. i have 3, they don't ever seem to get aggressive with each other either.
  2. nah just saw the other thread about it & it was removed just as i was about to post a reply.
  3. How big should he be? The silver aro that is 3 years old & 380mm that is listed on TM. Is that normal size for that age or is he significantly stunted?
  4. i remember a news story in the last year or so of the govt making pregnant women from other countries coming here to have their children to pay for their care. they reported that women were coming to NZ a month or so before being due & staying until the birth & going again for two reasons, firstly the care was free & secondly the child is a NZ citizen which enabled them to immigrate back at a later date. if i remeber correctly the cost of the care was around $20K per birth. i agree with making them pay for this. i see immigration tghtening up around theworld lately, did anyone see the herald article about the NZ passport holding pacific island mother & son that are being deported back here because of their exstensive criminal records? on the topic, i don't believe we should stop sick people coming in to NZ (except for diseases like aids) as long as our govt can get some kind of re-embursement from the govt of the origin of the sick people.

    can he say this?

can "that Guy" say this & nothing is done? here's a link to the entire article http://www.nzherald.co.nz/northland/new ... d=10557978 here's the bit i am very surprised that has been posted on the herald website: "My source tells me that a bored tiger bit the leg of a zookeeper some time last week, but you will have to bear with me as I have not yet had the time or inclination to get all of the facts. To be honest ...... To cut a long story short, what was the guy expecting? He was working with a wild animal and it's a wild animal's job to attack people whenever they see fit. Wild animals can't be trained. They can on occasion pretend to be trained to create a good impression to get something they want, but it is their prerogative to suddenly snap, become unreasonable and bite your head off, much like a woman. But I haven't come into the office on a Friday to put down animals or women, in fact some of the best sex I have ever had has been with animals and some of my most loyal friends over the years have been women. Let's be honest, they may salivate a little, but they are always waiting at the doorstep when you come home and there is nothing better than watching TV with their head in your lap."
  11. a friend has asaltwater pool, i have no idea how it works in the way of filtration. he occassionaly brings home a snapper to clean the algae off.
  12. $1000? I think you got riped off. I got anew grundfos for my house the day before yesterday for $600.
  13. those are the same as our water supply ponds on the farm with some edgings put in. our farm ones are possibly better as most of them have springs under them filling them.

    Sera Granumeat

I have fed Sera Granumeat on two other occassions in the last two years. previously i have purchased the smaller containers (approx 125g) & currently have the larger 205g. this batch is making my water a tinge red, this didn't happen the other two times i have fed it. anyone else feed this stuff & had or not had this issue?
  17. yeah dip it, i used to work in a hot dip galv plant. it was $1.25 per kilo then so it wuld cost about $80. if it was me i would fix plywood over the steel frame so you cn paint it or stain it.
  18. i have just become a farm hand so am getting my license info sorted at the mo. i have used a 10/22 ruger for about 10 years that belongs to my uncle. i plan on getting the fully suppressed ruger, synthetic stock & scope which will have the hare numbers reduced quickly out here. i also enjoy duck/clay bird shooting but no keen on bush walking.
  19. no i'm not, i don't understand how or why i would emply that. i also get rid of odd looking fish, i had some red zebras that had an odd shaped bottom lip so they got feed to the cat. i'm pretty sure that my yellows were from you.
  20. just out of curiosity, were they your yellows that richard up here about 2 yeras ago mike?
  21. i totally agree with above & after seeing the pic it is clear what it is & i believe it is unacceptable that shops are selling them at all. when people are new to fish & ask questions about the quality of their fish we need to make sure that the info we give is correct based on the facts of their particular fish & not what generally is around. I have no idea what is being sold in fish shops other than the ones in whangarei as these are the only ones i get to on a regular basis & i would still never order anything from their suppliers without seeing it first. newbies don't always describe things as we understand them. often everything we tell them is taken as gospel & if we don't quite get it correct we are leading them astray with that info. its like phoning the doctor to ask for a diagnosis, they won't do it. my point isthat i think we need not to jump to conclusions, get to know what we are judging then pass or condemn it. & at the end of the day it is our opinions that we are spreeding & sometimes these vary from one peron to another & that doesn't always mean one is right over another.
  22. haha, ryan you are so clever. in this case you gave your opnion without seeing something first & it turned out to be correct but its more like lotto than good advise for someone looking for help. yes this is clearly a fish that should be flushed IMO but what about the other one? that may be the same line which could also be disposed of.
  23. the reason i say that is the best yellows i have ever seen did get some black colourings in a beard type pattern for a short time & this was also only an adult male that did so. i agree that poor breeding would create faint colours etc but that could also be down to diet, water conditions, aggression or health issues to. my red zeb juvies are coloured like a tangerine in my tank but when they go to my LFS quickly loose colour as their ph is not high enough & they feed different food. it seems some are very quick to write off fish as poorly breed or hybrids without seeing pics or having any real evidence to go on. there are alot of other things that could contribute to a fish changing appearance other than breeding especially when i could have looked great last week. in this case bubbles1 has chosen to seek advice on black markings which noone has seen yet & from the response possibly thinks they have poorly breed fish that are no good. these could be poorly breed fish or my not be but who can really confirm this to be a fact?

    MOVING

i moved two weeks ago. i put all my fish from the main tank into a half full 80L chilly bin & emptied my tank of water & rocks but left the canister filter full & didn't remove the substrate. moved it & simply set it up like a big water change. went very smoothly.
