  1. i have found they get noisey when there is some air still in it. i would re-syphon/prime the water through it & make sure all air is out of it. failing that make sure the taps are on & water is flowing. i have found taht the taps are usually the problem when they start sucking air also.
  2. i haven't had that with my tropheus or other fish at all that i can remember.
  3. definately big $. but hey, why do we do anything? Cause we can!
  4. this is a guy in cambridge, waikato trimming the top of his hedge
  5. if i wanted to do that i would buy some 50x25x2.5 Aluminium rectangular hollow section (RHS), put 4 rows on there edge on top of the stand at the same length of the tank & then fit a layer of ply for the poly & tank to sit on. I would then get timber or ply & fit to front & end of the new platform to tidy it up. I don't think it will look right but that may not be that important. Ali is generally cheap in comparison to other materials. Ullrich RHS http://ullrich.co.nz/rectangular_tube1.php
  6. i would jam a hose onto it, wet area shower so it doesn't matter if you have a leak. i bought an extra hose to join to the existing one so i could use the outside tap to fill my tanks. attached a "nozzle skwirtie thing" so i didn't need to rush in & out turning the tap on & off
  7. its amazing how far animals can go. a seal was found in my friends waterfall at the base of the tangihua ranges in maungakaramea. it was on the MGK side almost at the end of tangihua rd, MAF estimated it had been through 50km of creeks & drains to get there.
  8. if you gently pump their gills between your thumb & index finger that gets the stubborn fry out to.
  9. i have a GAE & i have found it to be far better than the bristlenose i had a few years ago.
  10. chuck the larvae in your tank, its fun watching the fish chase them around & eat it.
  11. Congrats, enjoy every minute or you'll be like me & turn around one day realising you are organising his 9th birthday & think, "Where have all these years gone".

  13. i have around 120 grms (1/4 a shopping bag), $10 plus postage. i will have more as time goes on.
  14. the carbon is good for taking things like meds out of the water but IMO shouldn't be used all the time as it will absorb may things then release all at obce when it is full. I also have bio rings & pads etc in the baskets & they work very well. i typically clean it out every 4 to 6 weeks or when the flow reduces considerably.
  15. only until the next lesson 8)
  16. before i pluck them i train them to sit still. its a very sharp, to the point lesson but they learn very quickly.

  18. cool, will be willing to supply for that
  19. i guess it depends on how long you want to keep them. they grow up to 15 inches so that would need an 8 footer i would think.
  20. will you use it or sell it onto a buyer? there are buyers up here
  21. its a two part cure, first a circular metal device is fitted to a finger & the second part of the treatment is a substance consumed orally. It often includes small pieces of fruit & a very thick white layer on the outside. I am guessing that he has not been involved with these previously as he has a race car & fish tanks.
  22. you are indeed in need of a vaccine as this is the advanced stages no doubting that. there is a vaccine.......... do you really want to know what it is?
