  1. do you think i am picking different species to make them cheap. i like them & when they spawn i will sell them like the others, fry are a by product of keeping fish that breed like flies.
  2. people crying about my prices, you are on the hit list now
  3. man i will have to drop my price now.
  4. to me a fair price is alot less that what we have been paying. i will sell tropheus for $10 as they are a higher valued fish & the common africans i will continue to sell for $2 each. value is not going to stop "mis-matching" fish, that is an education issue. at the end of the day some agree with one thing while others don't. i will continue selling cheap fish so if you want to breed something to make $ get something i don't have. don't get brichardi as i will have those in the next few weeks.
  5. whats bad about it apart from people not making as much $? i stripped the fry, feed them for 2 or 3 weeks & sold them for $2 each. there wer around 25 per strip, so i got $50 from that one batch. if that is not breaking even or even making a small profit even if i take into account food, power, lease on the tank, water & depreciation on their equipment then i am unsure of what costs others have. oh, didn't you buy some? wana give me more $ for them then?
  6. you not seen the price of tropheus here? they are around $25 in pet stores in auzzie. i have been selling common africans at 30mm or less for $1 or $2 each, not that far from the $6 i used to ask for them.
  7. i loose $ doing it but am happy to pass on cheap fish so others can also enjoy them. the cost of having them is there whether you sell the fry or not. if you are setting up for breeding you need to achieve a breeding program that costs what it will bring in or you will loose money. its the same as building spec houses just on a much smaller scale, thats a risk people take & sometimes you win & other times not. the markets are subject to many factors & competition is one of them.
  8. we may be lucky & get our fish down to the same price as aussies pay for their fish & they get WC. i paid $30 per 30mm tropheus (x12 = $360), i have probably spent $500 on food for them in the last 2 years. When they produce fry i will sell for $10, this is not to get my $ back as i do it because i love the fish & want others to also have the realistic oppourtunity to have their own. the cost of having these is the cost of enjoying them not an investment for capital gain for me.
  9. mine are now cheap as i think africans are too costly & i will continue to sell 30mm fry for $1 or $2. my tropheus will probably be around $10 each at 30mm. its time to make these fish accessable to all for the best of the hobby & not try to sell for big $ for our own selfish needs.
  10. i have found first or second time mums don't go the distance, she will get there. stripping is more about containing the fry around the time they would be released naturally as free swimming fryso the other fish don't eat them rather than depriving them from being cared for by the mother from day one.
  11. maybe the market price is lower than what you are asking, alot of africans are being offered for alot less than they used to be & there were Fronts for $10 here the other day. just an observation

    canisters?

often the case but not always. i have had situations both ways, i now will always buy jager heaters when i need one after all my jebo's failed. I bought a Sunsun tank as it was the largest tank i could afford at the time. It is now over 3 years old & still looks & works like new. It looks like new as the cabinet is made with vinyl covered panels that prevent water getting in on the outer edges. the hood is amde of aluminium & although my cat sleeps on it alot it is still strong. It has out lasted an Aquaone that i had easily & it was less than half the price new. It is also better designed, the design allows easy installation of canisters or anything else you would want in it. Because of this i wouldn't hesitate to buy another sunsun product because of my experience. these days most things are made in china so it comes down to how it is designed & how it lasts rather than the name on teh front.
  13. i know someone that has a caldina & they are very happy with it for their family. on a slightly different note, i drove the new mivec Mitsi Lancer a few weeks back & that is a fantastic car.
  14. what's your budget? best is holden or ford wagon for size but if only being used around town then i would go for a Accord wagon or a Avenir or similar. If you are keen on a holden or ford, the sedans have massive boots so often they are more than what you need. I have a holden sedan & its got plenty for my family of 5 although when the kiddies are very small they need so much stuff, portacots & high chairs etc but the holden sucks all that up to.
  15. what goes in must come out, i would find a way of making $ from that ...... compost companies or something.
  16. man can they pack it away, hence the cost.
  17. so what's going in it & what are you using for filtration?
  18. how big is she & how long was she holding? have you seen her re-collect her fry, that is awesome to see.

    filters dead

just make sure you don't over feed
  20. i don't really think you need to leave it in there as it won't increase in temp, it will decrease. as i understand it the element heats the air between the element & glass which then heats the glass & warms the water. the glass may break if it is hot & then submersed into much cooler water but if you take a hot heater out the temp will gradually drop as it cools. the glass may break if the temp reduces instantly rather than gradually.

    canisters?

Here's one of the older threads. viewtopic.php?f=3&t=41653&hilit=sunsun+filter
  22. i have clown loaches & golden algae eaters wiith mine & they do very well as a clean up crew. I actually bought another GAE today, they are very cool. Both the GAE & clowns are aggressive enough to hold their own & they aren't bothered by the africans at all.
