  4. no, the closets thing to the wildlfe that he bought back was a wooden carved aligator about 20" long. Oh & a penis sheath that the nationals wear that was made from a tree root, he bought it new so wasn't used. the tribesmen there still wear only the sheath & a few feathers.
  5. i have a concrete tank that our water comes from & the ph is around 7. others that have plastic tanks are around 6 or lower i believe.
  6. i am sure he wasn't as calm as he looks in the pic of him on the crane looking up at the guy above. that river of water continued a few kilometers to the Fly river so it would ahve been quite a trip if he ended up in the water.
  7. this is one of dads "one tok" or helper, his name is bebisap ("bebi" "sap") & he is holding his lunch & the moths are as big as birds
  8. Dad had to be lifted off by another crane, the water came up so fast he was forced to hang by his arm of the hook of another crane working near by. he only just hung on long enough to get safe before he fell off. here is a D8 bulldozer towing the crane out the next day
  9. I was looking through some old photos at my parents house & found these which i haven't seen in years. in 1988-89 my old man went to Papua New Guinea to work on the construction of a power station for a company called Comtrade. He was a crane driver, the weather up there is tropical & its rains heavily most days around mid afternoon. this day it rained in the mountains earlier & no one knew what was about to happen. Dad had the 70 ton crane in the wier framing pulling out the steel when the water came rushing down, it took 15 mins from dry ground to the time it covered the crane. sunny, nice & dry the water is rising by this time (5 mins or so) Dad has shut off the engine & climbed on top. he tried to walk the crane out when the water came but it was so fast & the crane so slow that he got half way out
  10. this is a great thing http://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/artic ... d=10614391
  11. thats great, pics like that make having babies appear to be a good idea congrats 8)
  12. it can't be good in large doses
  13. us to. how good is the hood on the tank? pyrethrim is a natural insectaside is it not?
  14. really? there are large groups of ducks at parks & our golf course up here & thats pretty much all they get.
  15. I don't have much to show, am only running 3 at the moment.
  16. I would like to do this also but there are a few things that stop me as its summer in northland, doing family stuff like beaching, fishing, golf, bbq's, trail riding & walking etc so thats makes most weekends fully booked. i tend to think it may be better as a winter event when we can't fill our weekends with the fun stuff
  17. what size are the giraffes? if they are breeding they must be around 10cm? it will end in damage or death of the less dominant, the tank is not big enough so the victim has no where to run.
  18. giraffes get really big over time, around twice the size of the cobalts & can also be very aggressive. i think it would depend on tank size to be successful, how big is your tank & how many giraffes are you intending to have? groups of each will give you a good chance i reckon.
  19. its not a bad ploy by LFS to spread it around form their perspective as i spent around $60 on other products to try to get rid of it before F. excell was recommended to me on here. if every plant they sell has a little of it on it then the products will move quickly :-?
  20. i believe it gets introduced rather than grows from nothing. i got it on some plants i bought from my lfs when i was a newbie & didn't know what it was & it took over my tank. when i dosed flourish excell it was killed & never returned & that was around 3 years ago. regular algae comes & goes
  21. sounds like a good filter to me
  22. if you go with the Seachem flourish excell dose as directed & you will be fine. there are some theories that say half the dose or double it, i dosed as directed & it was gone quite quickly & the fish were fine. its flourish excell that works not the standard flourish.
