  1. I am going from whangarei to Auckland & flying onto Wellington & back again next week, leaving tuesday morning & returning wednesday afternoon if you have something you need shipped. PM me to see if we can make whatever you may need work.
  2. the fish i sent you on monday went on the plane, thats how they have to do it to gaurantee overnight from whangarei to chch IMO the challenge with sending fish is mostly keeping the oxygen up. the temp isn't as important with africans but a fish that size will need the bags you are suggesting at least. The courier from here to you is $29.80 per 5kg or 1 foot square (approx) which ever is greater so it will cost alot to ship a box that size. I wanted to get a 20cm fish sent from wellington but couldn't justify the $100+ for courier alone or work out a realistic way we could keep it alive on the trip.
  3. thats correct, bracing the front panel in the middle will also help hold it together.
  4. i have one of those, run the canister as well as hood filter.
  5. More fish often makes the hiding fish show themselves. I have found it really important to over feed juvies. I gave a friend half a batch of red zebra fry, i grew mine up as i always do (huge filtration & over feeding) & passsed them onto the pet shop. They sold & then the same batch turned up at the pet shop & they looked alot like those, an odd shape & alot smaller than mine were & didn't have the same colouring. I know they are fed the same food so its definately quanitity that makes a difference.
  6. they are good looking but need alot more food IMO, see how their heads are proportionally larger.
  7. if you came down my road shooting i would chase you to. not the smartest thing to do, i would think you shall be getting another visit with a court summons. :-?
  8. the most important thing when moving fish is oxygen. if you put too mat fish into a continer they will quickly be gasping.
  9. if its a system currently running then just use the existing filter media, pretend moving it is just a big water change & you'll be sweey. If its not currently running get someones dirty filter media & you'll be good to go once the water has warmed. The time it takes to do that the filter would have cycled the water a few times & should be sweet. I have done this every time i have set up a new tank, used an existing filter on a new tank & no problems have arisen.
  10. i'm supposed to be going there for a few months early next year, i shall have a look.
  11. no, they were around 4 to 5 inches we i had had enough of them. a few have them, i thought they were quite common.
  12. I got rid of those nasty fish a long time ago sorry.
  13. good things take time mine used to colour up often like the peacocks & not always when the female was around. no rhyme or reason to why that i know of but they definately colour up when they want to breed. i shall be up early tomorrow emptying the tank of rocks etc to catch them & take them to my LFS who will hold them in one of their tanks for the day so i can bag & send just before 5pm.
  14. mine spawned at around 4 inches, i would have thought they should have done the deed by now if they are a pair & conditions suit.
  15. i would ahve to disagree, last week my lump head bashed my much larger & dominant red zebra. i saw it so i am sure, they are very teritorial IME.
  16. i know why this setup needs to but why do return pipes need to syphon? i don't have one so am a beginner at this.
  17. who is the tm user that asked question on your auction? link to the auction?
  18. cool, you will be pleased with extrafiltration. just be careful the outlets & filter boxes are coping ok with the extra flow, watch for over flowing. I'm pretty sure if it over flows it will flow back into the tank at the end but just make sure.
  19. how many lph? the outlet will reduce the filtered flow.
  20. what i mean is that you could take the other one off the other power head & put it on the new one so no extra outlet was there instead of capping that one. mine came with each of them & you can fit which ever one you want to. mine has been running faultlessly for over 3 years now. where do you get them?
  21. yep it is. the other thing with using that is the litre per hour reduces as water goes out the outlet rather than up to the filter. the other attachment should fit if you have it from the other powerhead.
  22. thats what it is for, there should be a clear fitting with a pipe & adjuster for the amount of air to let in. alternatively the power head should have the same part without the outlet if you didn't want air. i choose not to use the air type fitting.
  23. our shavers lay eggs almost twice the size of the orpingtons. the shavers are in their second year & shavers first so they will get bigger as they get older.
  24. you are correct but fail to see that motor cyclists have more accidents than pedestrians. The reason the bike rego is higher than all the rest is the % of bike riders that claim is alot higher than the % of other transport users. there were almost 3 times the amount of bikers claiming than pedestrians. car accidents caused 8525 claims from 2 million vehicles (guessing the number but must be something like that), 3173 bikers claimed out of the total amount of bikes which is alot less which means they contribute alot less into the ACC funds so need to pay more to pay their way.
