  1. indeed you have & have done a great job doing it, i bought my dubs from you
  2. probably in their beds where they should be. looking at their red backs they won't be spending much time on them.
  3. there are a few red girls still wearing their "white bikinis" as we speak.
  4. i can't say i like the sound of that at all & its engrish isn't it?
  5. what are people calling 2010? "twenty ten" or "two thousand & ten", Dame Cath Tizzard opened the Waipu highland games & she said "twenty ten".
  6. i have been to the beach for the last 3 days & man have i seen some badly burnt teenage girls. its all about show for them & there will be quite a few very sorry girls tonight after they looked like lobsters this afternoon.
  7. cool, what size are yours? the pembas i got recently are around 6cm & are starting to show their orange bands, they are very cool. the dubs are to but i have had them ages now.
  8. after recent events of others i have changed what i thought was a good filtration setup, i thought that the more the better which still isn't bad at all. i used to aim for 10 times the tank volume of filtration per hour & i do still think this is very good, but only for mechanical filtration but now think around 5 times will be fine. taking out the left overs will reduce how much will affect the water parameters eventually so if they are taken out it must be good. i tend to think that most of the biological filtration is done by the tank itself, the bacteria in the substrate IMO does alot more than the stuff in an external filter. when setting up new tanks i have always used existing media in the filters, existing substrate & some water from existing tanks never lost a fish after adding them on the second day, an issue arised when another member did the same except for the substrate & he had issues which makes me think that the substrate does more than i initially thought. so i think, for a 200L tank you should have somewhere near 1200LPH (i have 2200LPH which probably isn't so important) of external filtration & at least an inch cover on the base of substrate.
  9. that was in march johannes/lynn. things change, people sell up & others get into them. & this comments refers to what, are you unhappy that you have spent alot on fish?
  10. who has what species of tropheus? these seem to be becoming more common & i am wondering who has what? I have duboisi & pembas.
  11. petrol, like saki or grapo if i remeber correctly.
  12. what i am curious about is how much this generation drinks. not as a competition or anything like that but me & my friends grew up in the country, worked hard on the farms on holidays etc which is where we earnt the $ to drink. we would regularly empty a 24 box in a night & still get home. it all came down to practise, practise makes perfect. 8)
  13. myself & 2 mates had a go at a bottle of absinthe, we were big drinkers in those days & we could only get through about a third of a bottle in each sitting. it was one of those "when i was young" situations that we all do/did, anotehr experience to learn from.
  14. no problem, he has a large white mansion & lots of race cars. he sells alot of pipe fittings, i see them in pics on an aussie forum to.
  15. sounds like a funny mix you have there
  16. i didn't check your location, you are very lucky to be or to become an african keeper in Aussie. there is more available & the prices are considerably cheaper there & you can get wild caught if you want quite easily. or so i understand from a tropheus forum i am on from over there.
  17. they don't have trophues listed or many of the africans so it will be interesting to see if they have calc'd for the african overstocking requirements.
  18. it happens in 3's, two weeks ago my trans in my car blew, my glass outdoor table smashed & then my tent ripped. all has been fine for a week or so now
  19. on your question of stocking, you could put as many fish as say 40 depending on what types you get. 4x2x2 is a good size as it gives a large footprint & litreage, i have a tank slightly smaller in depth & height & have around 30 adult fish easily & could add more. of those adults, the largest is a approx 18cm red empress which doesn't have any problems for space. the rest are around 5 inches or so. what species are you thinking of keeping? keep in mind lists of africans on website is not neccessarily what is avialable locally.
  20. hansen is good stuff. the owner of hansen plastics lives just up the road from me. 8)
  21. nothing like planning your life around traffic jams
  22. IMO & IME, you would be alot better off if you take some substrate from an established tank as well as the media. The substrate IMO holds alot more bacteria than the media in filters. if you have the same substrate in both tnaks i would take half of the existing substrate for the new tank & replenish it with new. do small water changes each day for the first week or so just to be safe & you should be able to put fish in there without losses very quickly. i have done this everytime i have set up new tanks & have not lost any fish this way when adding fish on day two.
