  1. I've finally got my act together and removed all the gravel and now looking at moving to setting up, a few months late is better than never  The holidays are coming up so I want to begin then (a weeks time). I want a lowish light tank with a few plnts that I can add to as money allows  So what to do first, my past tanks have been rock and driftwood based so I want to try something else, although I do have a small 90L slightly planted tank with anubis. I have bought some of the fish so have them waiting for the new tank, so need to get started on their permanent home (other than the small plastic heated one they are in now, don't worry they are only small livebearers) So whats first? What about the clay and where is it purchased from? Do I need a CO2 reactor? Whats a good cheap one? etc, etc, etc Also what plants? I was thinking ambulia, narrow and normal java fern, anubis of the different types, a low light grass plant (maybe baby tears), tiger lotus (depending on lighting requirements and care) and any others now needing too much light. And the fish, livebearers, cories, GBA's and red ramshorn snails. How do these sound :-? Would any dig up the plants or eat up any small fry etc, my plan is to breed the livebearers with shelter to hide the young, so want to avoid any carnivours if possible. Thanks for your help :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

    Best reef I've seen :bounce:
  4. Awesome, I once saw a FULL black one at Jansens for $26+, I wish I bought him, he was amazing, maybe next time
  5. Thanks for that, I have set up the plastic tank with the heater and the airpump and they are floating in the tank now. Can the suction caps be able to go down to where the heating element in the water is? I thought you weren't meant to do that, but maybe I was wrong. Thanks for the help, these albino guppies are great
  6. I hunted down four albino male guppies today and bought them in a hurry  Thing is I don't have a tank ready These are my options: 1) Put them in a tank with albino swords until I set up my 250L tank for them 2) I have a filter, heater and airpump but only have a plastic tank and was wondering if the heater would burn a hole through, just thought of that now, that I could set up lined with plants and try to hunt down females to breed 3)Put them in a floating trap What do you reckon, this is only a temporary measure until my next tank is setup, and would prefer to put them in the plastic tank but wonder if it would burn a hole through. Also anyone know of any females??? My tank of 250L will look bare with only 4 males     Thanks for your help

  11. I have see them in hollywood, not sure if they currently have any though Good luck
  12. Just red that the heating capacity element is 180w How are anyones experience with them?
  13. Are those thermofilters a good way to save power? My tank is about 250-300L whaich i'm in the process of setting up, want a new filter anyway (or off trademe ) And was thinking that say 50watts or so (If thats their power consumption) is better on all the time than a 300W heater and a 15-20W filter. Whats your view on this? Anyone had experience with them?

    Breeding mats

I personally don't use them as yet, but they are great for livebearers to hide when young The place Caryl is talking about is the 1,2,3 dollar shop I think. I saw them for sale there aswel for two or three $. Hope this helps :bounce: :bounce:
  16. I know ramshorns seldom eat plants I bought a couple of anubis plants and got them posted to me and now my tank is full of snails, I hope thats a good sign.
  17. I got some in also, but they ended up being a flash pleco L204, I felt guilty not buying it but it did sell in the end. I said that I didn't think they could be imported. I know now.

    A pic to share

Awesome pics and stunning fish Well done :bounce:
  19.    I'll tell you if a rocking chair comes up  I went and bought them today, awesome trader and the guppies seem fine. Their eyes are black so I gather that the father was recessive (rr) and the mother was completely dominant (RR), therefore the outcome is 100% split with the dominant trait being expressed (100% Rr). I'm not into fish a big way, but am setting up a new tank and was wondering about Phills albinos in the next few months or bearded dragons They are AWESOME
  20. I just bought them for $8 buy now, was the auction for all eight? Just thought that then, anyway I'll hopefully pick them up tomorrow. :bounce:
  21. I've told him to bear with me. I would snap them up but I'm only a year older than him so am unable to arrange my own transport, I would also need to offer more than a dollar, too much of a hassle for him otherwise. :bounce: Congrats on the male guppies :bounce: :bounce: And you can sex baby guppies, you'll become a rocket scientist next  Swords are quite big but I don't think they would fit in their mouth, I would use a net for a while I think.
  22. Ok then, but I don't currently have a tank for them Would they be Ok with three albino koi swords in a 90L tank? Why is the split snakeskin so important Are they hard to get? Thanks :bounce: :bounce:
  23. Awesome, well done!!! There are some split for albino on trademe that I might bid on, fair travel to collect though.
