  1. Sadly I don't think he is going o make it tonight After purchasing both a male and female from 'iloveoranda' I bought them home and seperated them into seperate barrels. I did weekly waterchanges of at least 10% (often more). The male seemed to go downhill with a 'bubble' on its skin and with some scales sticking out, as the days increased more and more scales stuck out :-? I moved him inside in a aerated 90L tank and increased my waterchanges and put in some rock salt and skin repairer (aloe vera) with every change... He had seemed to get better, the bubble dissapeared etc. All of a sudden even keeping up the water changes he began tipping on his side unable to swim how he originally could have... He had a couple of wounds and damaged fins. Tonight he is on his side completely I have moved him to shallow water making it easier to get around but it isn't helping. Is this some sort of disease from my own doing or could it be some genetical organ failure??? Like I said the waterchanges were weekly and the female is provided with the same conditions and is normal (if not better than when I purchased her) :-? Is there something I can do or is this the end??? Anyone had similar experiences with his fish?? What could have caused these wounds, bubbles and stuck out fins??? He has been by himself since purchase, no other orandas in with him. PLEASE HELP

    wellington pond

Can you get coldwater killies Alan?? I am setting up a fishroom for coldwater species and am getting goldfish, minnows and maybe paradise fish but would like anything else different... Do you have the names of the particular species? Sorry to intrude your thread...
  3. Hope that made sense
  4. While on the topic how long can collected sea water be kept without being circulated around and still be Ok for useing? The reason I'm asking is that there are are a pair of coldwater seahorses I'm considering purchasing, i'm not close to the beach and so could only collect water once every few months, and put it all in a shed without power to store it all, I thought this wouldn't be an option as the sea water needs to be always circulated by an airpump to keep the salt and water mixed...Am I wrong??
  5. Thanks for that Amazonian, i'll get back with the size of it. Didn't think it was a bad buy so quickly bought it Should do well out in the fish room.
  6. Picked it up second hand for $20, know nothing about multiple airpumps  Its got 8 outlets and is a 'Hailipai ACO-9630' airpump, still works and quiet to run. Has anyone had any experience with these?? How many tanks could it run on and what is the wattage?? Doesn't say on it :-? thanks

    anyone ever had?

Off the topic a bit, those siphons are deadly   when changing the water in one of my oranda ponds I 'over sucked' the siphon and basically choked the rest of the night, surprising I actually survived
  8. Good on ya!! I think I red that they only lay about 7 or so eggs :-? Good luck with them
  9. Good on ya I was thinking of bidding for breeding stock but now wondering if I should specialise in coldwater fish (eg minnows, orandas etc) Might be keen on some youngsters

    Neons M.I.A

Whats your temperature of the water?? Neons are suited to cooler water than angels at about 20-22 degrees unlike 28 degrees-ish. They are not comfortable at these temperatures and don't last as long. Maybe this is something to do with it... Or the angel could be eating them, how big are the angels mouths?
  11. Hi Fay, I'm in Pukekeohe so am local. What size tank woud she need? :-?
  12. Thats amazing Welldone :bounce:
  13. Still considering this fishroom  Is there a form of solar heating panels that are quite cheap that could heat a small area through solar power?? The rooms going to be about 2.4m x 1.8m and i'm still wondering the cheapest way on power, if something does exist I wonder about night heating though... :-? I know this is an old thread but do soalr heating panels exist and if so is this a dumb impractical idea??
  14. Can I ask how you can tell the males from the females. I red that the better coloured ones are males but in the petshop they are all dull
  15. The galaxies were not nearly as colourful Seemed quite dull actually, maybe it was just the lighting.... :-?

  17. Good to know I think i'll stay with my albino guppies then
  18. I know that albino swords are becoming reasonably common, albino guppies are still quite hard to come across, but am not sure on albino mollies? :-? How hard are these to come by??? Thanks
  19. Hi again, Everyone has basically answered your questions I think it was around $25-$30, and would be about 1 metre (I think), I just chucked it in a storage container upright and it couldn't all fit, so after about a fortnight I turned it over A bathtub would have been more suitable. I think they are quite cheap for their price
  20. Hi, I have bought a huge piece from them before, this was heavy due to its size but still required some sinking before going into tanks. I feel their prices are reasonable but the problem with them floating is common, but this is normally the case with most pieces. When I bought that piece they also had some already submerged heavy pieces for sale, whether or not they still do I don't know :-?
  21. Hi, Congrataulations on the fry, I have red that newly hatched brine shrimp is best.... Good luck

  23. CONGRATULATIONS!!! Must be something in the water as you say.... :-?
