  1. yikes. I went over a train track in the country after work one day. I didnt see any train coming. So through i went, slowed but still doing 70-80km. as soon as i went though i hear ding ding ding (the lights must of been going. but sun was on them), think naaa?...look in rearview mirror and a train was going through. was so close, i dont know where the train came from
  2. thats not bad. 17 hours maybe abit much for the heat lamp. id aim for 30-35C basking temp and 12 or 14hours on for both lights, thats just me though.
  3. what is the temp and light hours? probably just winter and there instincts??? who knows. lengthening the lighting hours slightly may help and raising temp if need be.
  4. mine only eat once week at mo. about 9months 40cm, one active one in cave most of day (separate enclsoures) been like this past month maybe 2 slowd down but not brumating. as long as they dont seem skinny she be rite. probably find they become more active again in a couple of months i do wonder if i should brumate mine (switch lights off) they seem inbetween :-? silly skinks how big are yours firefish? brumation is a size and maybe seasonal thing, not so much related to age.
  5. the one ive got is very likely from the green caterpillars in the garden which are from the normal white cabbage butterfly. only ever seen green caterpillars here, and i dont miss many nor do the frogs
  6. there is 'talk' about it....who knows what will come of it.
  7. do blackworms bury into substrates? if so i wouldnt expect them to swim away, unless you pull them out of it first.. generally tubifex are pink to red about 2inch, blackworms more red to black and upto 4inch.
  8. look like blackworms to me. tubifex are similar though :-? maybe tubiworms all good food, someones been overfeeding?
  9. haha, comes on at 7am and 7pm for 1 minute. Just enough to moisten the plants. The Tillandsia is finally greening up
  10. they must be happy if theyre breeding.
  11. awesome those brine shrimp must be dizzy
  12. Thanks Deepsound. Im pretty happy with it, must say your setup raises the standard though That pump/mister worked really well especially considering it was so cheap and easy to do. It was a good work out in the morning pumping it up. I got lazy though, so after a few beers the other weekend i rigd up a pump. Its on a timer now, so much easier. http://www.youtube.com/user/nzexotics#p/u/1/RwIcz24Ckc0
  13. what does the leopard geckos skin feel like? soft leather? they remind me of those really big fat green caterpillars on gum trees
  14. Will take pics. Just been through my photo's, im surprised i didnt get any last time. Havent seen any of those spotty ones, only green caterpillars, my frogs seem to like them to.
  15. little wasps would make sense....so maybe i should let them go. no one likes those white butterflies?
  16. just feed carotene, it wont happen over night..but it will happen
  17. I dont doubt its happening. Question is how do we stop it? I think importing (even if it was just for species that are already here or have been here) would make it less appealing to those few smugglers out there.
  18. wow those pipe fish are fascinating...are they found around nz?
