  1. you tell me, a couple i had came from you? or are they not "yellow" now.. its inevitable that with inbreeding (as most of nz reptile are) and just breeding in general you will get morphs sooner or later?
  2. Dunno about backwards, maybe twisted  True that makes good sense. Importing does seem to be the best way to stop smuggling. Something definitely needs to change for exotics and even natives, cos it sure aint working the way it is..
  3. "expensive licence and cheap animals". Even with extra money from a licence system, its not that easy to police so unlikely to appeal to the authorities. Surely they have better things to worry about. Look at our natives, the licence only stops most from even attempting to keep them. Yet smuggling is a huge problem. A licencing system does have plenty of merits dont get me wrong, but im not so sure it will have a positive effect on the hobby if applied to exotics. Cheap herps is only a matter of time in most cases anyway. How an authority would make them cheap is beyond me. Your going the wrong way about getting answers if you ask me. I agree the iguana thing seemed a bit harsh but the seller hasnt exactly stood up and taken any responsibility and or proven they were legit, or have they, last i heard that was before the court and compensation was talked of?
  4. True, interesting. This one looks the same as last time. Darkening all the time..should hatch in next week or two i think.
  5. Thanks Zev your onto it. Just looked at wikipedia and looks like your right. My memory must be playing tricks as im sure the last one i had hatched out little black things...maybe im thinking of something else. Will soon know when this one hatches
  6. ive hatched one in the past, for memory the best way i can describe them is they looked like midgy or queen ants, and a good number of them....
  7. thats one cool fish. look at those lips, its smiling
  8. Thanks, i totally forgot about turtle ponds  that water has a nice green tinge to it already Am i correct to assume you dont want any daphnia in the water? Ive used water from a trough (and tap to top up) that has a couple of stray tadpoles in, the water in trough was slightly green so thought that would of seeded it. Shouldnt have had any daphnia in it as i assume the tadpoles would have eaten them long ago. But doesnt seem to have worked as the culture is nice and clear now :-? Ill try the turtle pond water. What about a few snails? they should be ok eh?
  9. Just curious if anyone has a good way to speed up making green water? Adding nutrients maybe? Ive still got the main ingredients used for pmdd here somewhere.... Ive got plenty of light, air bubbles and warm water. Been feeding a little bit of fish food and its been a few days and the water still looks clear as :-? maybe im just impatient? Any tips/advice would be greatly appreciated.
  10. If you really want a turtle your best to focus on that..Then just add some fish as feeders. that way you dont mind if they get eaten..Good chance a few will survive especially if they have a place to hide and you keep the turtle well fed. But then again one day mr turtle will very likely conquer all Guppies are good feeder fish, convict cichlids are pretty hardy and fast. I even had convicts breeding in my turtle setup many years ago. I actually think turtle tanks are rather boring so a few fish adds to it and lets face it theyre probably the best food you can get...goldfish are great feeders and will survive tropical temps for a while...they just get a bit speedy
  11. Thats a great idea, looks much better
  12. Good effort on getting one dude. Any pics of setup? I burried a peace of driftwood with hole in it and i hardly ever see it now. It use to just have its web on the side of the tank and i could see it go down into its web/tunnel. May do a clear tube for a cave next time i redo tank...
  13. I checked your website earlier but didnt see any..... Fluro or compact bulbs?
  14. As per title, just curious if anyone knows whether we can get 10% uvb reptile tubes in nz? if so which shops? Welcome any feedback on uvb lights in general cheers
  15. one of the nicest if not the nicest setups ive seen where are the doors?
  16. i think theyre just green sparrows  nice pics repto, must of been a neat place to visit.
  17. I was emailed a link to the same thing, its what prompted me to ask
  18. Anyone kept weta before? any advice? Apparently its ok to keep cave and ground weta...i assume these are the ones we find around our homes from time to time? tia
  19. Dodonaea viscosa Silent a maybe? as it seems to be pronounced how you've spelt it Zev
  20. try feeding less, or in smaller portions more frequently. ideally so all the food is gone within 12-24hours. better to treat the cause as appose to the problem
  21. i know what you mean sneaky. pet shop down this way had 2 little newts in a huge exo terra with a little water bowl last time i visited...took about ten minutes to find the newts  i remember reading an article a few years ago...mentioned raising them in 2/3inches of water, with heaps of plants = faster growth rates.....dont think it mentioned having any sort of land/driftwood. but for some reason ive always given them a little bit. i suspect theyd be ok with out it and maybe just some indian fern on the surface... Good to know they can handle deeper water to. i do like seeing them hunt on land though. I struggled to keep enough daphnia going for newly hatched, but once morphed and on land i found them very easy to keep happy on crickets. grindal worms were perfect food for newly hatched up until morphing to
