  1. I never thought much of this until now. When spawning albino x normal green frog, eggs all white but tadpoles all normal (turn into green frogs). Albino x with green frog split for albino = all white eggs but some normal tadpoles some albino. Now last time my standard bell frogs spawned i missed it, didnt even see the eggs. Looking at whistling tree frog spawn the other day, noticed eggs were black, but with a little white on the underside. Thought hmm wonder if the normal bell frog eggs are the same. My standard bell frogs have just spawned, and sure enough the eggs are black with a little white on the underside. So seems the albino gene/s is making the eggs white pretty cool eh. Dont know what it means other than the obvious but anyway. I find it rather interesting the eggs are different.
  2. this guy wouldnt eat his flower, so yeah if he aint gonna eat it, he marswel wear it eh
  3. yeah, females probably saying, if only i could get away from these ruddy males  they remind me of crocs how they sit with just their eyes out of the water

  8. champion, thanks spoon the ficus pumilia is a goody
  9. lot depends on depth and where it was centered if im not mistaken.
  10. cover pump in a stocking, or even better some fine white fabric. helps to prevent spray bar or misters getting clogged up aswel as the pump
  11. any suggestions for plants fokes. plants that ive found todo ok. bromeliads acorus javamoss sphagnum moss spanish moss ferns (more suited to whistlers?) some i wonder if worth a try?? bamboo phormiums (flax) juncus i need more ideas cletus
  12. yeah well for $3 a spray bottle is probably worth it, just need to remember to use it lol to true.
  13. i dont like the idea of having it in with bell frogs, theyl jump all over it and i have a feeling the plate gets hot, could be wrong though. the proper humidifiers that you can run a hose to the tank would be the way to go. be good for plants but more for the effect that looks neat. otherwise can get a pump and just make a rain chamber out of a spray bar sort of thing. that'l keep plants and frogs happy, dont want it too wet all the time though. or do what i did in this setup http://www.youtube.com/user/nzexotics#p/u/1/RwIcz24Ckc0 (ignore the guy mumbling, not sure who that is) can pickup equivalent pumps on tm for about $60-70, adapter from dick smith about $20 then buy fittings and tube from bunnings for about $10. put on timer and bobs your aunty.
  14. anyone know how they work, like does it sit at water level or have a tube go into tank? does it get hot? think theyre the same/similar prduct only in a fancy package as to what you can get a bunnings sometimes. apparently need distilled and or clean water to work...i can see them being temperamental...
  15. Wow thats a mean fogger. Search humidifier on trademe and some similar ones come up. You can get cheapish foggers or mist things in bunnings/warehouse from time to time, come with pond features etc. Havent seen them for a while but havent been looking all that hard either. But not sure how they work and or how much heat they produce. Wouldnt want it too hot. Something like this should be safe as though http://www.trademe.co.nz/Health-beauty/ ... 839380.htm Plants would love it.
  16. ewwwwww crickets, im warning ya........they'l make you go mad...just like me  stare at the face below long enough you may just have nightmares
  17. I just use daltons propagating mix (gritty sand)....use to use it in fish tanks with good results, now frogs. Just rinse out in a sieve then add to tank. Little bit dodgy for impaction, so maybe put java/sphagnum moss over top. Can use river stones to bulk up the base (create mounds etc) then smaller stones, then sand etc. I dunno what others use.. Started a thread on plants viewtopic.php?f=40&t=48560
  18. After any suggestions on plants for frog setups. Especially natives but what ever goes cheers
  19. theres a pic back in this thread somewhere of my whistling tree frog setup. Those plants are all from Warehouse. Except the spanish moss that was up on the right. Key is keeping them watered, if you mist them atleast once a day thats probably enough. Or if you plant in substrate at ground level then may not need to worry so much. And reasonable light, a fluro or 2 around 6500k (daylight i think they are) should suffice
  20. thats pretty small, probably ok for some whistling tree frogs given theyre a smallish frog. being smaller they dont destroy plants as much either male frog hitch hiking
  21. if you mean the photo of the month? i seem to recall a photo of a newt won it once....so maybe we can enter reptile/amphibian pics in the photo of the month thing, if its still going?
