  1. oh but the commentry really took "living art productions" to the next level
  2. nice one, thats a lot of stones for a small axie. i purchased some adult turtles a few years ago and same thing, pebbles were turning up in the tank for weeks
  3. probably your pump or airbubbles making it bunch up? if so easy enough to adjust. best to thin it out before it gets too thick anyway. freeze the excess, then feed it to your fish, free food easy enough to get rid of, but no need cos its going to be perfect for your tank
  4. yea i think so, its definitely not obvious anyway.
  5. Thats a good size tank, they'l be happy in there.
  6. Phoenix should be flattered  Yeah id say same thing about sex Phoenix. But then i had two which looked very similar, the wider one turned out to be male :-? Almost seems to be that any shape/size can be any sex with the skinks.
  7. spike has some nice colour for a youngin. very hard to sex blue tongues. once mature the males drop sperm plugs (looks like snot) every now and then, when going toilet or just excited lol. otherwise just have to wait until they try mate and see what happens.
  8. looking good, was going to say a bit of driftwood would finish it off nicely
  9. thats cool, love how it raises it's legs (whatever theyre) before it strikes, so dramatic to eat a little grass grub
  10. your getting different results to me then. both herps and herpes can make people look at you funny, but thats about it as far as similarities go
  11. should be easier to calculate though. its going from 12.5 to 15%. atleast its a whole number
  12. lol 7cents a litre, be lucky to save more than $5 on the average tank. probably use that by the time you start the car and drive to the petrol station.
  13. i dunno about that  . anything i say is just my opinion, gained from observation over the last few years, and too many late nights online. this site has been very helpful. still so much to learn, gotta love reptiles
  14. even when coming into shed, they can lose a bit of their appetite, so likely less stools if a week or so out from laying eggs they seem to produce less aswel.
  15. yeah stress is a killer, no need for it . great you care so much though im not sure exactly, but must be just about every day they pass a stool. every couple or 3 is probably ok, it does vary abit though, depending on growth/age what and how much your feeding etc. I dont really pay alot of attention to the smelly presents lol, but do notice if there's nothing to clean up for a week or more, thats when id start to ponder whats up. atm mine are eating like crazy though, and seems to be every day if not every second.
  16. not sure they actually need a water bowl tbh, salad and bugs probably enough on its own. i use waterbowls for the crickets benefit to, keeps any strays happy (always a couple in a setup somewhere), especially overnight beardies do seem to benefit from it though. in the past ive noticed that if i didnt have a water bowl in their for a few days, when i do add it/top it up again theyre often straight into sipping it.
  17. Lol...we must relax, makes it much more enjoyable. 1. the beardies have been shedding for many years unaided. 2. shouldnt be constipated, address the cause. bath only helps fix the problem until next time. 3. wont be filthy if its healthy and in a clean setup. A little poo smudge isnt going to hurt, let it be lol trust me they drink water if they need to, theyre not as silly as they look
  18. 2/3minutes under water is the record a bd set here one day. give the beardie some credit, its not going to fall a sleep and drown  they seem to like water, but dont need swims or misting imo. ill bathe them if looking blocked up/hadnt passed a stool for over a week. thats not really the cure and or a preventative measure though, just one means of aiding the situtation if it ever comes about. Good diet, lights, and temps. Cant go wrong
  19. Not sure if this is the same DOC doc but closest thing ive found http://www.reptiles.org.nz/uploads/PDF/ ... izards.pdf Nothing about sort of timber that i can see. Wouldn't hurt to ask someone at your local DOC office given they're the ones who issue permits. Someone from NZHS has recommended to use treated timber. Painted with water based (acrylic?) paint.
  20. i would of thought treated would be the way to go, painting it should make it safe?? i cant imagine they're going to chew it like some birds/rabbits etc or would painting untreated timber be enough to make it last? hmm
  21. Yeah french vanilla seems the one to go for
  22. yep good old NZ sphagnum moss (i had to check the spelling ) can get it in dry blocks from the warehouse. seems to work well for newly morphed frogs.
