  1. true, just wonder if it may be that a parasite is causing the defects... :dunno: http://www.fnzas.org.nz/fishroom/viewtopic.php?f=41&t=53457 :dunno: though, i may be clutching at straws
  2. would there be any harm in putting a uv filter on the water supply? like is that going to kill valuable micro organisms the tadpoles like to munch out on?
  3. maybe not long fin. but anyway, have u seen them at massey?
  4. mate in aus reckons these are the go. http://carpetpythons.com.au/sim-incubation-tubs/ edit: seem to be used for geckos too http://www.lovegeckos.com/sim-incubation-container.aspx looks like the way to go.. could diy something with some plastic egg crate. and saw this the other week 8) http://www.3news.co.nz/Baby-crocs-to-hatch-in-Auckland/tabid/423/articleID/212989/Default.aspx
  5. he may know how to sex them . . . here's a couple more auctions to ponder about http://www.trademe.co.nz/Pets-animals/Reptiles-turtles/Other/auction-383733674.htm http://www.trademe.co.nz/Pets-animals/Reptiles-turtles/Other/auction-385510712.htm i imagine size and weight would be more relevant to sexing as oppose to age .. in some cases anyway.
  6. i think it is heading that way. must be more reptile keepers now than ever before. price (and possibly even demand) has slumped so theft risk is minimal. 99% of people who keep and or breed reptiles are good sorts. 1% a little :nilly:
  7. Nice find Perpin. Looks like they're producing plenty of males over there too (check out last post :sml2: ).
  8. probing? Dont try at home, your an idiot if you do and will probably harm your gecko. "Husband wants to probe my leopard geckos" :sml2: http://geckoforums.net/showthread.php?t=66367 otherwise once a breeder is onto it, it can't be too hard to incubate for males and be sure of what one is selling ??
  9. would be a good way to keep turtles indoors. is it all local livestock you have in the tanks? and is the water just room temp?
  10. looks to be a good way to construct a pond.
  11. fascinating thanks for the info Stella. just making a bold unsubstantiated claim that comes from my vivid imagination. I do think that chemicals are playing havoc with wildlife though. In particular, bees, frogs, [edit] seem to be taking a serious hit. Given we nuke the environment with chemicals like there's no tomorrow it's no surprise I suppose.
  12. interesting read. page 3 onwards in particular. http://www.exploratorium.edu/frogs/researcher/index.html
  13. just what roundup does to all things aquatic
  14. addressing the possible cause: could cut back lighting hours. less food for fish and or plant ferts if using them. more water changes. bigger filter maybe. sometimes just a sign of tank not being cycled fully / newly set up / not enough good bacteria (cleaning filter too often) etc green water should just go away once you find the balance.
  15. may not have been intentional try separating them for a while. should get the male randy, and the female time to eat some candy :slfg:
  16. possible answer :sage: "Females born in the higher temperatures differed from those who were born in the lower temperatures hormonally and behaviorally. Those born in the warmer temperatures expressed more aggressive behavior.[11] These are known as "hot females" and are often determined to be infertile, that is unable to reproduce." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leopard_gecko - under Reproduction.
  17. think it is more likely that it stems from the original albinos I had. i know the guy had similar problems producing them. . . maybe just not to the same extent.
  18. fairly confident these are dried up plugs. just for you Nymox
  19. 5 days later and there is another one in his tank this morning
  20. i think it is a must have. can just use a desk lamp for smaller turtles. use to beable to get clip on ones similar to this http://www.thewarehouse.co.nz/is-bin/INTERSHOP.enfinity/WFS/TWL-B2C-Site/en_NZ/-/NZD/ViewSearch-Dispatch?ResultSize=2&DefaultButton=SimpleSearch&SearchRange=Entire+Site&SearchString=desk+lamp&x=0&y=0 otherwise an exoterra fitting is ideal. 60-100watt spotlight from the supermarket $2-10. Or Bunnings have a good selection of bulbs. the heat lamp basically encourages basking and dries their shell out good and proper. just like the sun does in nature. the turtles loooooove it. other than eating there isnt much else for a turtle to do in a tank
  21. sounds all good. have you got a heat lamp? good point skippy.
  22. what is the turtle currently living in? lighting, temps, filter, size of tank etc. . .
  23. i was using the microwave to sterilise and heat the water... thats normal eh
