  1. http://www.fnzas.org.nz/fishroom/3-vt16 ... c&start=30 theres a picture of my newt setup on page 4 i think, is overkill i think so maybe selling it soon (without the newts) would be ok for newts or frogs i suppose, theres was another thread with peoples newt setup pics but cant find it, search them on this site and you might find tht and some other info.pics etc.
  2. If you search thermostat they have 2 on offer but are rather pricey at $129 but should work well. exactly what ive been looking for to make an incubator, although im sure these can be purchased elsewhere abit cheaper
  3. very nice, no need to be a photographer with a tank like tht
  4. can you use something like these for a freshwater planted tank http://www.trademe.co.nz/a.asp?id=90239993 Or do you need this sort of mh which seems to have a different bulb http://www.trademe.co.nz/Home-living/Pe ... 765157.htm And or what about hps / high pressure sodium lights like the switched on gardener sells for growing tomatoes , has any one tried those or is there any reason they wouldnt work as good as a mh? Sorry for all the questions Im new to all of this and admit I have no idea.
  5. I maybe keen have you gt any pics of yours caserole??

  8. Good effort Id geuss 600 + done on a real rough estimate.
  9. metal baking tins sounds like a good idea, I have been saving the tins from tinned-fruit for the same reason and have some fine wiremesh which may work although its not as fine as the stuff from biosupplies and the baby waxworms are tiny so may still get through it, otherwise im wundering maybe when theyre young they cant chew through fine material so could use material and mesh on top, otherwise maybe they only chew out when the food runs out so no need to worry if i keep them well fed. I just wanted any feedback preferably from ppl who have breed these as ya cant beat first hand experience, its probably quite simple as most websites just say a jar with mesh lid and ive seen plastic containers with plastic lids hence why i think maybe if theyve gt food then they wont wanna chew out. Jim - I geuss they could be fed to fish but been fatty id say only every now and again, and same with lizards, turtles, frogs etc etc
  10. dead or alive if it was truely tht size they could still photo and measure it therefor still a record i would of thought, I doubt it was as big as was stated so someone trying to prove something
  11. Hi Jim Um theyre a small moth which generally is found in beehives and is a well known pest to bee-keepers, the moth has larvae which are known as the waxworm, theyre very similiar to mealworms although abit bigger/fatter. Theres a pic on this website which ive found usefull, http://www.exotic-pets.eu/waxworms.php
  12. Ive got some waxworms and theyve bred no problem but as they chew out of plastic and wood containers im just wundering what other ppl have used for the culturing container?? Other question is do they only chew out of a container if they run out of food or at a certain size maybe?? Ive got them in a jar with the lid on tight but dont have enough jars to get more cutures going and they need some sort of ventilation if possible.
  13. Crikey I hate to think how much food you go through with tht many cats, personally I think 9 + some kittens is crzy and even if you only keep 5 adults in the end thats still border line nuts. I mean come on the r.s.p.c.a all over the country havin to put cats down because they cant find homes for them all, and then theres the whole issue of cats killin our native birds and lizards (good reason to have a bell on there collar). If you only kept 1 or 2 they would be fed well have more love and attention and you wouldnt be contributing to the feline problem we have in this country. All the above is just my opinion please dont be offended.
  14. I think somethings abit dodgy with those frogs, 1 - a nine year old spotted them - yea rite to me thats covering there ass, if it was truely jst a find they wouldnt need to explain nothing. 2 - if they are just a through back or something from a green/golden bell why havent we seen em before? but yea i maybe wrong but seems all to good to be true to me.
  15. wow kool, wish i had see nthe auction earlier, nice spottin fishboi. Ive never seen anything like them or herd of them been yellow, has anyone else seen these before?
  16. Interesting so po4 = phosphate? Any tests i can do other than just trialing it on fish? Ive never done any test b4 so wouldnt know where to start!
  17. Interesting, the company im got these from distributes cdax spray equipment so id say your dead rite, also they use foaming agents in spray as it cuts down on the drift you get with wind etc. Hopefully its not to toxic, shouldnt be if its just foam but i dunno?
  18. awesome yea ive given it a really good hose and scrub (couldnt borrow the water blaster today) and it seems to have cleaned up very well although still abit of a smell to it, ive left it out in the sun for abit (dam its hot here) then will give it another good rinse fill it up and test it on some minnows i think  Should be fine, thanks everyone for your help/ideas etc, I really appreciate it. p.s Ira thats a good idea about the pond paint so ill keep that in mind but i think they may be ok now with a good clean and heaps of water.
  19. Also what sorta tests can I possibly do to check theyre safy once scrubbed or whatever?
  20. True thanks all the same man, I might start asking around. Only good thing about these 1;s ive gt is i can get em free so im sure ill find a use for them even if its just for mossies out side. For a liner what would one use, just the standard polythene pond liner stuff or ?
  21. All Weather Foam Concentrate 160.1 Organic surface active agent, second drumb says All Weather Foam Concentrate 160.1 For turf and agricutural use.
  22. rude crude i prefer them nude. Its all part of life, lap it up and live it up. I love confrontation its all good (live and learn) everyones entitled to there opinion, right or wrong, good or bad, its all part of human nature.
  23. If Joze takes it personally then she should'nt have made the post in the first place, come on guys, everyone is entitled to their opinions so if your going to express them great, but back em up, and if you take it to heart then you need to harden up (IMO), theres ppl from all walks of life on here so ya have to be open minded and not everyone will agree on everthing!
  24. Thanks ppl, weathers not bad here shadowfax, lil bit of cloud hangin around but will no doubt burn off and be another scorcher this avo. might head out the river again later! Um with these drums maybe if i stick the water blaster in them and give em a couple of good rinses then let it sit outside for a month or so untill mossies move in, then would it be safe to ssume theyre all good? Iou1 got any suggestions where to get the food grade drums??
  25. Ive just gt a couple of blue drums through a mate and the label on them says "FOAM CONCENTRATE" for turf & agricultural use! Id like to use them s storage bins but this stuff smells potent so is there any soap/chemical tht will clean them out (and be safe for fish) or is waterblasting them about the only thing i can do?? Thanks for your time, any suggestions welcomed
