  1. stop smokin the wakey sharn i thought you had kicked the erge lol!
  2. yea like anything you get back what ya put in i geuss.
  3. true yea sounds good to me although when i was feeding out crix i used to just chuck em in a plastic bag with the calcium and or vitamin & mineral powder and shake em up then feed. same can be done with locusts and mealworms. Mealworms will eat it if left in it for a lil while just not too long like you say or they will die! Me been impatient normally i just dust em or shake em in a bag and feed em out, in doing that with crix it makes em white which means they stand out more/are less camo so easier for the predator to spot I found!
  4. expensive if you buy it i geuss, otherwise can be time consuming if you breed your own and then it depends on how much you value your time or how much time you have!
  5. bloodworms are good otherwise live food is good but maybe harder to find given were heading into winter, ie mossie larvae, daphnia, whiteworms, brineshrimp, fruitfly/fruitfly larvae etc etc. Variety is the best imo!
  6. I may be wrong as im still new to all this but my geuss would be the big contributers to algae are; Light nutrients waterchanges Plant & or fish load. Feeding (what and or quantities) In saying tht if your filters low on good bacteria (ie not cycled then you may get algae as things will more than likely be out of balance. I maybe way off so please correct me if im wrong. .
  7. you could try mountain minnows, ive got them happily breeding in with a young axie but im sure if the axie gt hungry hed get the odd 1 but thats the good thing about them breeding! keep the axie's well fed and plenty of plants for the fish and dont get upset if the fish disapear
  8. david r how do you gut load your crickets if you dont mind me asking?
  9. even better still go to bunnings and get a 6500k tube theyre all good for plants and imo fish dont need a special light. 4ft is about $4-8 each
  10. dunno i dont really keep that closer an eye on em ae, everytime i check my setup theres alway numerous pairs playin piggy back! like humans i geuss as long as they can they will lol

  12. yep sounds like mating to me, theyre always riding once old enough, the females in my setup dont get much rest at all  ! Males generally are more yellow and females have black lips (not on their face either)
  13. trogdor sounds interesting  ??
  14. I use perlite and it works a treat, did use vermiculite & tried sand but no luck at all but that may of been due to not having them setup properly (ie to low a temp etc) but now using perlite and seems all good.
  15. Yea i saw some 3 foot 1's in mitre 10mega down welly ways but they werent 6500k they were something close though for memory, the thing that put me off was they were over $15

  20. Been cheap and given i want 10 or more has anyone found a good place to get the 3ft fluros?? Bunnings & mega seem to have 2 & 4foot cheap as like under $7/8each but everywhere i look theres no 3ft for some reason? Any reccomendations/help would be appreciated, p.s want the 6500k for plants etc  Cheers Matt
  21. 15-20cm now thts some big bn's show me the proof lol remember fish look slightly bigger in a tank 2.
  22. how come you have to sell all your fish man? if you are selling your cories i maybe interested
  23. Always the way Are you sure yours are 15-20cm thats huge for a bn i didnt think they got that big to be honest?
  24. bloodworms are great, otherwise worms, finely diced meat (ox heart, fish, prawns, shrimp etc) small aquarium/pond snails, you can also get hot house turtle food (meaty fish stuff) from wetpets and other pet shops i presume, turtle pellets (nutrafin is a good one) or trout pellets, duckweed for abit of greens or cucumber/zuchini, oxygen weed etc (should offer greens often as sooner or later they'l get a taste for em & as they get older more an more greens should be part of their diet. IMO variety is the key (like with most living things) so try mix it up abit form time to time! Not everyone would agree but when they get older little pinkies which are a delicacy for turtles baby mise / rats Other important thing is calcium, you can get calcium blocks from pet shops/ trademe or calcium tablets for dogs or cheaper still cuttle bones for birds which you will find in the supermarket. Also if you really wana go all the way you can get calcium and mineral powder for reptiles (think someone on tm is selling it at the mo) and dust there food in tht once a week or so. hope your turtles have settled in well
