  1. True oops that maybe my fault, Ive just edited it, let me know if you still cant see any of the pics!!
  2. They sure are cute when theyre little like this, I'd forgotten how kool it was watching them take there first dash into the water and how confident they are, good old natural instincts I geuss! 5 in the water so far
  3. thats interesting, personally i dont think abit of driftwood should cause any problems as im sure there'd be some in there natural environment, I dont use chemicals at all I dont even treat the water for chlorine nor have i ever done any tests on the water , If there's a problem in the future I may do some tests but I dont try fix what aint broken, ie if the fish look ok then thats good enough for me and I havent lost many fish at all considering  !
  4. Just checked and thats my first lot from 2 females there was a few more eggs but the rest were infertile so only got 10 in this batch, good point about the size i just took these with a 10cent piece for size comparison; Afrikan- lol no I wont be naming these Im a shocker with names ill never remember them
  5. Not sure It shouldnt go any/much lower i dont think and should be fine with the cories and guppies as far as I know!
  6. So stoked, thought id better check the eggs as i havent done so in the last week or more and thought to myself imagine if theyve hatched already and when i opened it i found these Just before x-mas too   Theyre so cute, Id better go sort out a tank for the little fella's!
  7. Bogwood/driftwood/wood in general will lower the ph and yea the water should clear up soon enough!!
  8. ooops whys that sharn, ive just chucked some peas in the tank shell and all, I was too lazy to bother with the shells as I thought it be a good bit of excercise for the bn's to get into the middle (like eaten a java lmfao). But seriously can the shells make them sick or will it just stop them eating them?l
  9. As far as I know theres only 1 sort/native shrimp in nz, other than the fancy 1's that are in pet shops from time to time. I bought some off tradme a few months back and theyre exactly the same as you will find in rockpools around nz! As for the breeding side of things if its as easy as suggested in the website above ("which also states 1500 eggs per week") im sure many of us fish keepers would be using them as live food as they would be prime! So please if anyone has had any luck breeding these I would love to hear from you
  10. I dont see why not, maybe worth a shot, ive tried slices of potatoe and they seem to eat that and tomatoe but I did lose a whole batch of fry around the same time lol but could of been a number of things ie - the spuds were a tad green-got slack with water changes-had hydra infestations etc so now i just stick to pleco chips, trout pellets which they seem to eat but are abit messy, little bit of spirulina flake, and cucumber and ocassionally bloodworms!
  11. "got me a present" lol thats a great excuss to get some more fish,
  12. I think they eat algae as they always appear to be cleaning things in the tank ive got them in, they also eat infusoria, flake yeast etc although i havent been feeding mine much at all lately and they seem all good. The ones on trademe will no doubt be from a rockpool or stream somewhere, alot of people sell them saying they have bred them but im yet to come across anyone who has proved this yet, Ive also seen people say that the ones theyre selling arnt the native one's but as far as I knpw theres only the 1 type of fresh/brakish shrimp in nz (correct me if im wrong)! Ive tried breeding them and had no luck and I put it down to its very hard to imitate there natural breeding ground which is I think when they go from freshwater to the sea. In saying that though & given everything else we breed surely these cant be all that hard & there must be a way and someone must of had some luck and if you check out this website it sounds so simple http://www.geocities.com/demitri1977/shrimp/ and this site has a bit of general info http://www.nzfreshwater.org/shrimp.html If anyone has had any luck breeding these please let me know
  13. Hey evil those 6500k tubes you bought, do they actually have 6500k on them or not, Ive gotta get some new tubes soon and want to get the 6500k but all I know is to ask for daylight tubes??
  14. Pretty much anyone can wire a lead onto them, I always cut leads off appliances if theyre stuffed before chucking them away! If your gonna get something like that this maybe worth a look, theyre a cheapish import but ive bought a couple of similiar lights off these ppl and they seem to work fine just need to wire a lead on and theyll send them do your door which is always a bonus! theyve got various sizes just checkout there other listings http://www.trademe.co.nz/Home-living/La ... 444601.htm
  15. I find them great especially for fry or small fish etc, & I agree about the gunk to as long as the flows still going then theyre doing there job and the gunks generally good bacteria! Also good to have them running in an existing tank for a couple of weeks ready to chuck in a new tank as its a great way of transfering good bacteria & saves time on cycling any new setup!!
  16. Start saving that pay and maybe you should keep the tank you just got as a spare, if your anything like me youll be wanting more tanks in no time lol but then I suppose not all suffer from mts but it sure can become an addiction this fish keeping   p.s so where are your fish now (in the bath?) or are you going to buy them once you get the tank??
  17. I agree with warren Ive been stung a couple of times but as long as you learn from it then hopefully ya chances of it happening again are pretty slim. You could poss make a quick buck on it, ive seen 60cm tanks sell for more than $50 so if you do decide its not for you it could be worth a try to resell it, just stick the reserve at what you paid for it atleast. As for getting a bigger tank it will cost more obviously but deals do pop up on tm from time to time so just got to be patient which is easier said than done!!
  18. Sound a real character  sounds lonely or its a fish with a.d.d, I'd say find it another mate but to be honest I dont no alot about gouramis, sorry I cant really help you there.
  19. That sucks when ppl advertise things incorrect, but still looks like a good deal even for a 110cm tank, hopefully like Alan said you can get the lid shortened etc!!
  20. I must admit the gals in there were helpfull but 1 in particular said "theres no such thing as an albino bn, theres an albino pleco" I doubt whether she had even seen the 1 in the shop as it was definately a bn, so youve gotta wunder
  21. I did ask the chicks working there if its was another species but they couldnt find it in there book and werent sure. But the more I think about it maybe it was just a standard albino bn that was a lil bit off colour, the only other thing that really made me wunder was why theyd label it as above and not just as an albino bn, maybe they were trying to make it sound fancy. Anyway if anyone knows whether there is indeed another species of albino bn please let me know
  22. Its like saying a womens tooooo good, ya just wont find 1. Lmfao Sorry I just couldnt help myself, silly questions get silly answers
  23. p.s I may of spelt the "teminki/ii" bit wrong
