Been there done that :facepalm: I solved the problem by adding another bottle into the system between the mix and the tank so that when the mix overflows it goes into 2nd bottle before getting anywhere near the tank, like alanmin4304 suggests.

Never lubricate silicon seals with vaseline. Because vaseline is petroleum based it will slowly break down the silicone rubber and the seal will leak.

I've got a couple of nights in New Plymouth coming up in the New Year, and I'm wondering on the best things to do in town/ in the region besides Pukekura Park. I've got my son with me and we're both interested in nature walks, beaches, native fish and diving. I was also wondering about a drive up Mt Taranaki... Any advice or ideas?

I've kept these before and they can be extremely aggressive :an!gry towards each other when there is only one pair but especially if they turn out to be both males :an!gry . Three is better as they seem to take turns beating each other up. The only way I found to reduce the aggression is to create multiple hiding spaces, with the best hiding spaces having several entrances/exits. It gives the victim :tears: a chance to leave a spot when the aggressor :evil: decides it wants to be there and provides alternative refuges. They also have a taste for guppy eyeballs .

Well I finally have managed to hatch some red spot severum fry :happy1: I've been readily able to get my red spot severums to spawn, by feeding them on mealworms and doing a water change, for quite a while now. But the've never managed to hatch the eggs themselves because they seemed forget to guard the eggs at night. So I took the last lot of eggs off them and put them in a 15L tank with 5ml of methylene blue. (This is the first time I've bred a species of fish, as opposed to letting them breed themselves). And now I have lots of little fry with yolk sacs :happy1: ...Also I've got a male bristlenose with a brood of fry :happy1: So now all I have to do is keep them alive for 30 days...

My Tough Tanks made 4ft tank had the bracing come away when it was 3 or 4 years old. It was easily repaired because I had a short sash clamp available. But I did freak out when it happened because I didn't know how much glass could bend. Then I discovered Greg from Tanks2U and I had a 5ft, 2m and 2.5m tank made. The prices were considerably better and I'd recommend him to everyone. Mind you its been a few years since I did a price comparison.

In the big tank there are angelicus loaches who are eating most of the swordtail fry and the Sewellia fry spend their time hiding amongst the plants and rocks. I've never seen them go up the sides.

I've got a FX5 on my 2m river tank with the intake at one end and a home made spraybar at the other. The spray bar points upwards. I've added 3 tunze 6025's, the first one is under the spray bar and points across the rocks. The other two are halfway down the tank, one pointing upwards and one downwards across the rocks. I've also got two internal filters near the intake which aerate the surface. The whole setup give areas of fast current and slow patches, and most importantly a lot of surface agitation. My other hillstream tank is 3ft with a Aquis 2200, the intake is at one end and the spray bar is at the other. The spray bar has one section agitating the surface and another spraying across the glass at the back. It also has a seio on the spraybar end which is directed at the glass at the front of the tank I've recently added a fluval 304 to the intake end to create more surface agitation. I find that the hillstream loaches love to sit in the powerhead and spraybar flow on the rocks and on the glass. In both tanks the tiger hillstream loaches have bred.
